Ok lets get the stink out of the way right now.
1. No multiplayer options
2. Ingame info text is so tiny you will have a hard time telling what is going on unless you have a large high def set.
3. Graphics don't look any better than a ps2 average game.
4. Too short a game.
5. Can't roam outside mall grounds.
Ok, now that we got that out of the way...
The above issues are a bit of a bummer but that don't mean the game is not fun or challenging, it is.
you are a free lance reporter who is flown into a town where something weird is going on. you are dropped off at a mall and from there you are to figure out what the heck is going on and make it out alive.
The game is one big time limit. you have 72 ingame hours to crack the case and be back to the heiipad in time for pickup. you will end up with 1 of 3 endings in the game , only one is the true ending.
you can roam the Zombie infested mall and use almost anything for a weapon, my personal favorite store is the home depot type store. Man you can really do some damage in there with all those tools.
This game in not the best graphical game I have seen, it looks ps2ish, and rather than having voice acting when talking to people in-game, you instead get to read very tiny almost impossible to read text leaving you confused as to what is going on. So where did all the power of the xbox 360 go? Well it is being used to render hundreds of zombies on screen at one time. Literally. But the cut scenes look pretty cool. And the cut scenes with the Psychopaths are Hilarious and disturbing!
Asside from the handheld weapons you can pick up in-game you also have some limited use of cars and trucks, even a harley you can used in the underground tunnels to plow down gobs of rotting zombies, 53,000 zombie kill achievement? no problem!
All the weapons in the game degrade quickly with use so you are constantly needing to find new weapons.
Some of the achievements in Dead Rising are extremely easy to get and some very very hard to get but all achievements regardless of difficulty give the same amount of points (20) not leaving much motivation to get the harder ones.
Even though the game does not have online play it does have a decent amount of replayability, first off there are 3 different endings, also you may find your self playing the game over and over to challenge your self, " This time ill see how many people I can rescue" or "How many zombies can I kill in the 72 hours?"
Also once you complete the game with true ending you open a new game mode. basically you stay in game and see how long you can survive before dying, food in this mode is not respawned and your health meter is constantly slowly going down, the record on the leader boards is 14 day survivor.
The game also has a built in leveling system where your character can move up in level as he gains points, higher levels means you get larger health bar, can carry more food and weapons, become faster and stronger etc.
This game has a little bit of an (Asian made game) feel to it, with the picture taking and sound effects, I'm pretty sure some of the sound effects are taken straight from the metal gear solid games. Like I said before the look and sounds don't give this game a next gen feel.
I would have loved to get away from the mall and roam the rest of the town just for a change of scenery but oh well.
But heck if you are a zombie fan this is definitely a buy.
