Earlier this year I ended up upgraded my HDTV. I was looking for the Best HDTV to buy in 2012 (read the thread), and ended up going with the Samsung 3D Smart TV. It's great, I can't find one thing wrong with the exception

" When I try to stream High Definition MKV files to my tv it doesn't play them, but it will play them just fine if I attach a USB drive to my tv. "

Anyway, here's how i got it working..

How to Watch .MKV files on your Samsung Smart TV:
1. Change the extension of the filename to .avi.
Example: Change from "myvideo.mkv" to "myvideo.mkv.avi"

To see file extensions on your PC you may need to go into your folder options and turn on extensions for known file types. This can be done by browsing any folder on your computer and click folder options.

Here are the Stats for my TV:

Samsung 60 inch LEDTV Specs:
Video Screen Size 60
Resolution 1,920 x 1,080
Micro Dimming Micro Dimming
Clear Motion Rate 800
Picture Engine 3D HyperReal Engine
Wide Colour Enhancer (Plus) Yes
Audio Dolby Dolby Digital Plus / Dolby Pulse
SRS SRS TheatreSound HD
dts 2.0 + Digital Out Yes
Sound Output (RMS) 15W x 2
Speaker Type Down Firing + Full Range

I can totally recommend this tv to anyone! Amazing picture quality @ 200 Hz (800 - Clear Motion Rate).

Yeh it's strange that the files play just fine if you attach the USB drive to the TV, but now i got the best of both worlds.. Smile
