Hey guys, Ive been out of the loop for a while and I've fallen a little behind on the modding scene. I have two xboxes that seem to have dvd drive issues, one being dead, and the other, I'm not sure. I also have two other of the old school fat boys that are RROD but I have no power cables to test out errors. Those two are the old style 6 prong adapters with the extra little square in the middle. I just refer to them as the 7 prong adapters.

That being said, I dont feel that I have the soldering expertise to swap out dvd drives. I have a replacement liteon drive for one of them, but I am too nervous to try to swap boards. Also, I'm wondering if anyone has an old "7" prong adapter lying around they dont use. I'd hate to buy one from gamestop @ $30-35 when it may turn out I dont even need it. I know Wes213 lives fairly close to me. Anyone else located in VA near Danville area, that would be willing to help me out?

The unit I mentioned first works, but the dvd drive is completely dead. Its doesnt budge at all for opening. Virtually no life is left in it. The system works fine and runs with no hitch, just has a constant fast flashing GREEN power light. Any ideas or options are welcome.

Before swapping a dvd drive or it's PCB you need the unique drive key from your xbox.

So let's go step by step. The first console you want swap the drive, which drive has on it?

Yeah Ive already tried the swapping the boards. Looks like my only other option here may be to mod it and get the key for a new drive. That sound right?

The Key and firmware are written in the board, so replacing the board is like replacing the entire drive, so in order to work you need to flash it with the dvd key from the older board

Ok I realize I am supplying the wrong info. I had another Liteon drive and I swapped the laser out using the same board to match to same Xbox. I was hoping maybe the motor had just died and I'd use another. No deal, It seems to be a bad board itself. There is absolutely no life in the drive. I did in fact use the same pcb just different laser.

All that being said, it seems my only option is to mod it. I think I'm ready to do so, just need to find all the info. The tutorial for beginners in the "Tutorials" is still a little too much for me to comprehend. I just don't know what some of the things I need are. I'm comfortable soldering, just need some detailed info. I'm not even sure I can mod this 360 yet.

First tell which Lite-on do you have. Is it a 74850C, 83850Cv1,
83850Cv2 or 93450C?

Then you will need a probe in order to get the key.

You can use the tutorial app I made for an easy access to the most important flash tutorials.

In the case of that drive you have 110% complete tutorial for noobs here:

Thanks X_Splinter for your quick responses. I will look into this today. Hopefully it will be cut and dry for me. Although, I'm sure I'll be back for help.

The link to the Kreon Connectivity Kit is dead. I'm trying to find it through Google, but not having much luck.
