I do believe it is the other way round, heating the whole board or using a heat gun is bad.
Someone please correct me if i am wrong. _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.

I am not a professional at repairs but I have done 10+. The best method I found is:
2. After the mother board is completly removed and the heat sinks and thermo compound completly cleaned off and dvd wires removed, wrap the whole board in aluminum foil so that the only thing exposed is the cpu/gpu, ram, and hanna chips ie the main causes of RROD.
3. Fire up your heat gun and let it hot before starting on the board. Focus mostly on whats causeing the RROD (from step 1.) Try to keep the heat gun pointed away from whats covered in foil becuase you can still "pop" a capacitor. Always keep the heat gun moving in slow circles and work at each component for 1-1.5 min.
4. Let the board cool down for atleast 30 min. Replace the heat sinks using good thermal compound, and use the correct screws and washers instead of the xclamps. Put it back together enough to test it out. Cross your fingers and start it up. If all went well you should have the boot screen. If you are still getting RROD check secondary codes again and give the heat gun another go.
I have never done the oven trick, I dont like how it heats everything up. The focused heat of the heat gun seems safer to me, just my 2 cents. Hope this helps, and if anybody has a better method chim in!

Once I installed my Hybrid Extreme X-clamp fix, I had to do the old towel trick to reset the chips. I wrapped it up in three towels, while only the power cord was plugged in. Find the power button and turn it on and let in run for 30 minutes or so. Mine shut off before I unwrapped it(possibly from the chips resetting). I gave it an additional 30 minutes or so to cool down after i unwrapped it. Then Presto, it worked like a charm. This fix also depends on what the problem is with the Xbox in question. _________________________________________________________

All these tricks and that to fix a RROD Xbox 360 will work from anywhere to 5mins to 1 year plus. If you want a guaranteed fix and have not opened up your xbox 360 MS charges $99 comes with another year warranty on top of it to i think. But if you have opened up your xbox 360 then depending from the link that was giving what your error code is the best one i know of is changing out the xclamps with bolts and washers that are a certain size u would have to google it but what you do is.
Clean of the thermal paste off the cpu and gpu put a nice thin but not to thin and not to thick coating of Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste on both gpu and cpu. Now tighten down the bolts but not to tight. have the xbox 360 fans siting ontop of the gpu aiming were the air will blow down on it as we are trying to re-set the cold soldering joints that have happend (most cases and cause of the rrod) turn on the xbox 360 let it sit for about 10mins then pull the fans off the gpu and 2-4mins 4 mins being max you will hear the fans get louder and the red lights should blink 2 which means overheated if done this is wat we want. Turn it off usually have to unplug the cord from it to get it to shut off. Turn the mobo over tighten the screws more now but make sure not to over tighten them. Put it all back together let it sit for 20mins-40mins and it should fire up and work.
this is what i have done and have had many work for 1+ years some going on 2 years now and others only lasting 1-2 months. Some 360s were made so shitty that there is not much you can do. But anyhow i do not take no responsibility in anything you do to the xbox 360 if it becomes injury or catching on fire or anything this is just stating what i have done in the past to get them to work. What ever you do is at your own free will _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

i did it by wrapping tshirts around all but the processors then wrapping foil around the shirts tied it together with wire, but in prheated oven at 550 for 2 and a half minutes on each side, took out let cool for 25 mins and it works no red ring.

You probably just screwed up more than you fixed. There are a lot of internal pieces on the Xbox that are not suppose to get that hot. The towel trick alone is really bad to do on an Xbox, but this is just crazy.
Don't be surprised if this is only a temporary fix or if it causes more weird errors down the road. _________________________________________________________
