So I finally saved my RROD system and actually fixed the sticky DVD drive on it. Now I have one problem. The DVD drive ejects perfectly every time, as opposed to never, but now the disc is still spinning when it ejects. I will note, that I fixed the drive from sticking, by putting some duct tape over the magnet on the top cover of the drive itself. I had the same issue with an old regular Xbox with the magnet being too strong to let it eject the tray. Any suggestions? If I remove the tape, it wont eject at all. Maybe I'll try removing one of the two layers of tape.

I found a fix for this already and thought I'd post it for others. The problem was the rubber grip ring that sits on top of the disc spindle. It was a bit dirty and had lost its roughness/grip that keeps the tray from spinning like crazy. A little alcohol applied with a q-tip brought it back to life. No more spinning while ejecting. Sorry for the somewhat useless post.

A new belt or cleaning the belt that is on the 2 pulleys that are towards the front of the drive should help with the drive sticking with out the need for duct tape. I had a drive that the drive would loose grip while it was trying to spin up, made the worse noise ever! Like you said cleaning the spindle fixed things right up. Glad to see you found a fix!
