Hello everyone, I'm new and my first post might be a doozy.
Ok, I bought a 250G HD to replace my 120G. I also bought a cheapo transfer cable to finish the job. Plugged my 250 via cheapo trans. cable into the front USB port and tried to transfer data from my 120 to the USB. Said the 250G wasn't ready for xbox save. I clicked the option to make it ready for xbox saving and it somehow reset it or something. Obviously it didn't work but the big problem is that when I hook the 250G into the Xbox 360, it wont recognize that the HD is even there. But if I hook it up via USB, it will recognize that it has 16Gb.
Please someone tell me how to reset the 250G HD back to the way it was. If I could just get the xbox 360 to recognize it, I could reformat it but it's as if there isn't even a HD plugged in....

Someone please help me...

Before anything, call Microsoft and try to get a return, if that still fail's you. Then I will get into some details which will cause you to void your warranty. (Hex Editing with WinHEX)

Okay, I just had a good idea, download Xbox 360 Commander (FATX Program, like XPlorer360 and xPort), and try reformatting it on that. But once again, do all you can to get a return. Wink

Damn, I had the same problem with a working 20GB, my xPort didn't detect it, but my MS Transfer Unit that came with my 250GB did. Okay, try with a different device if you have. The weird thing is, my xPort works, it just don't want to detect my 20GB every other HDD works, but my MS Transfer Unit works with it.

I'm gonna go out and buy a MS transfer kit I guess. Whether I can fix this HD or not, I'm gonna need one eventually. I shouldn't have bought the crap transfer cable. Or really, I shouldn't have hooked up to the front USB. Bummer.
How is it that I can hear the hd running but it's not detecting it? Is there a chance that it's just wrecked?

Well, the reason is, in the HDD, is RAW data, which I belive you may have written over. And speaking of the fact you only have 16GB, did you accidentally reformat the hard drive with windows? And it may be, depending what went wrong.

ok dude, what you have done is REORMATED your HDD to your pc... ( i do it ever now and then with my USB...) but windows/mac wont detect it because its actualy for the 360 so... plug it into th TOP of your 30 into the PROPER place and try to format it by going into system settings>memory>format... if it doesn't work you clould alway take it to a gaming shop and trade it in for like a 60GB :S

He said the hard drive is not detected in the XBox 360 or the Computer. And yes by the sounds of the 16GB he reformatted the Xbox 360 hard drive as FAT or FAT32.

You will most likely have to rebuild the Xbox 360 hard drive, this should be able to be completed in HddHackr. It should be able to be completed with WinHEX and manually rewrite the Hard Disc Drive Security Sector with the stock 250GB and then recreating partition 1 and 2. And the 3rd can be rebuilt with the XBox 360.
