First of all, what do you mean by, 4 RROD (Red Ring Of Death). The Red Ring of Death actually only has 3 red lights lit up. If you mean, 4 are all red in the ring, make sure your video plugin is plugged in firmly, and if not, try another one. If that still doesent work, open it up again (if you have allready put it back together) and take a look under the board to see if anything is burnt out. And, make sure your wires arent touching ANY metal, I had that happen once, crashed on me, moved it back away, and it was fixed. And I am guessing there is no video what so ever as it is problably a video problem if it does have the 4 red lights.

sorry about that. it is only 3 lights. i know the 4 lights is usually the cable. either way, do you think there is a problem sending it in under warranty as a mod?

thanks

What motherboard type is in your Xbox 360? And make sure your DVD Drive Cables are plugged in firmly, and are your wires hitting the top of your DVD Drive? That could cause a problem. For some reason, when I move my DVD Tray a little, it would cut all power and give me RROD like you have. What color is the light on your power brick?

sorry for the delayed response. been out of town. thanks for all advice so far. I checked the light on the supply supply and it was yellow. I checked all connnections and they were fine. I did the towel trick on the box and it started to work and then froze and went back to 3 red lights. Any further advice. It is still under the extended warranty, so will it be a problem sending it in since it has been flashed.

If you are talking about the DVD Firmware being flashed, then MS will just send your xbox 360 back to you with a letter saying it has been tampered with. But there are ways to fix and prevent the RROD. One way is to remove the XClamps at the bottom of the motherboard, the XClamp are meant to keep the HeatSink in close contact with the GPU and CPU, but can often just cause a overheat problem. Another thing to do when it is fixed, buy a aftermarket fan. I personally like the Talismoon Whisper fan the best. Anyways, good luck.

i saw on youtube about using pennies after removing the xclamp. is that what you do or what other options are there once the xclamp is removed.

also, when i tried the xbox again, the disk started with a normal green light, then i lost the picture and the screen went green. all the cables seemed ok. any ideas?

thanks

Pennies? And yeah, just try all of the RROD methods and I am near guarantee you will get it working. But I have personally realized that the most affective way is to remove the XClamps.

if i ever get a 360 which as red lighted, all i do is x-clamp fix then a re-heat, it always sorts it out, after that i dont have any issues with it apart from maybe a lazer change down the line.

yeh me too.. XCLAMP and a re-heat normally does the trik for me too.. But with some machines you just don't know how badly they have been treated and they sometime cause you trouble..

With the machines that cause me trouble i normally shelf them for parts.
I don't like spending hrs and then having to re-open over and over.

I lost my only JTAG box ever and never could get it working 100% since. I gave up.. Was looking to get another soon to help TEAM HQ dev team here on 360-hq to build some homebrew apps. Smile
