I just got a new xbox 360.... my last one got RROD... 3 times.... my old xbox was modded... so i can enjoy my backed up games.... is there anyway to insert the old dvd drive into the new one without flashing the drive ? I dont have a SATA kit... so i would have to pay someone to do it.

Sorry bud, no way around it. You need the key of the drive to match the console, if it was the same model, unmodified drives, I'd say swap the boards if the drive was bad, but in your case, the drive needs to be done. Now, if you kept the old drive, when you get the new one done, ask for both drives to be done just in case one dies, you have a back-up. But other problems are now coming to light with cross spoofing drives. but only for online banning issues.

you need the keys for the new drive, and have them spoofed to the old one. The old keys are for your three light box. Each set of keys are married to each system. Never are there two same keys. If you did just put in the old drive, you can watch movies, but play no games. That is where the security kicks in.

Since you have a backup of your old keys it should be a breeze for you to change out the drive..

Here is a link to a tutorial i wrote on how to spoof drives.

I was going to try and swap a Toshiba/Samsung drive in one xbox with a BenQ I have in another xbox. If I did this with the above guide, this will not ban me from xbox live?

Why would you want to do that on the new one just get the benq flashed with Xtreme LT 1.1 (this is newest one out) there is Xtreme LT for benq but that one had some security issue so they released the 1.1 so make sure your getting that if you have no one to do the flash I am available i live in the usa and have many references on flashing drives for people plus after you get it flashed by me it comes with free updates in the future Smile

but benqs and that are easy same with samsung they recommend using a connectivity kit to do the flashing with as some people said when you do it by powering the drive through the xbox it sends a message to xbox next time you connect to xbox live. But anyways like i stated i dont know why you are wanting to do it unless you want the samsung modded and benq untouched that way you can pop your samsung in to play offline and then play your benq online that is not modded i can see this or having the samsung for a backup.

Scarface, thanks for the reply mate. I was wanting to do that because the GPU in the xbox with the BenQ I believe is fried. I cant get a picture out of it, only sound. Done the XClamp fix to get rid of the RROD, worked for a hour or so then image started to blur then lost picture alltogether. The Xbox with the Toshiba/Samsung MS28 drive is scratching my discs. I'm not sure exactly why it's doing it if it's the laser or if it's just on it's way out. So I wanted to get them swapped around so that I have a good working xbox.

ok sorry for late reply and thanks for more info on why this is good details so now i know exactly what you are trying to do.

In order to do what you want you have to do this
1. Pull the Key of the Samsung drive
2. then flash the benq with the same key aka spoofing using the new f/w
i offer this service if you can not find anyone local to do it i am well known and trusted member on this site. Also if you want to do it i would
order a connectivity kit xecuter or maximus as they are the best and that
for flashing people prefer not to flash through using the console as a power source as i guess ms might be able to detect some how and with
the connectivity kit you are using your own power source and that and not
from the xbox 360.
