Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong spot. But I need help bad.

So my xbox 360 20gb Hard Drive is broken, I got the E68 Error message.
I read up and saw that you can use a Memory Unit to get onto Xbox Live, so I went out and bought a 62mb Memory Unit. I want to get onto Live really bad and can't because when I go to recover my gamer tag it wants me to install the latest upgrade which I can't because the upgrade takes up 126mb (or so) of memory..

Is there any way I can get pass the upgrade or anything!? Anyway I can fix my hard drive, My computer is based on ATA Hard Drive's so there is no way for me to hook up my 20GB SATA Seagate Xbox Hard Drive.. I have already opened it up and looked at it and what not, Its not making any unusual noises it just up and froze on me one day and has yet to work.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. But I have a feeling the only advice I am going to get is to run out and get a new hard drive which I really do not want to do.

Thanks!!

hiya dude i got this from another site, got 95% votes for correct answer might be worth a try, will see if i can find anything else!

A Working Solution.

Remove any disk from the DVD drive.
Remove the hard drive and turn on. When you get to the dashboard turn it off again by holding the X button on the controller and select 'Turn off console'.
Wait 10 seconds and then turn on again by pushing the X button on the controller. When you get to the dashboard turn off again via the X button.
Remove the AV / Video plug from the back of your Xbox.
Replace the hard drive correctly.
Switch on the Xbox via the power button on the console. 4 red lights should flash.
Wait 10 seconds and re-insert the AV / Video cable.
You should now load into the dashboard with your hard drive profiles - wait theres more!
Turn off and on via the X button as before another 2 times with all leads and the hard drive in place.
After you power it off the second time, remove the power lead for 20 minutes and then turn on again any way you feel like it and it should be cured.

a

I tried it exactly how you said...

When I unplugged the AV Cord and Plugged it back in, It just froze on the XBOX 360 logo.. I tried to shut it off with the power button... Nothing, I had to unplug the power cord....

Thanks for trying though.. Really sucks its been about a week, I miss CoD4! lol

Ok, So after messing with it for a little bit, I finally got it to work with the hard drive in...... BUT it's not reading ANYTHING on it. I went to format it and it was unable to do that.

I tried to recover my gamertag, had me go to install the newest update...... but nothing, I accept to install the new upgrade and after that nothing else popped up.. Tried it a couple times and got the same results. So right now im clueless.. It shows that there is only 1.2gb left on my hard drive but yet it doesnt show none of my files..

Now what can I do? I would greatly appreciate an answer asap before it end's up freezing again and I can do nothing.....
THANKS!

The only other alternative would be to grab a WESTERN DIGITAL hdd and use HDDHACKR to format it ready to be used in your xbox 360..

Here are some links which may help you if you decide to go this way.
