i recently consulted Microsoft about my issue and they told me that my PSU was faulty and that it needed to be replaced. One week later i received a new psu and the problem persists. What happens is when i have the power supply plugged in it lights orange as it should, then once i plug the cord into the back of the console the light on the PSU turns red. Is there anything that i can do to fix it myself. has there been a past experience with other xbox's before. I dont really like sending in my xbox and paying $100 to have them fix it.

Wow, that's pretty unusual.. Haven't heard of that particular issue at all.. Sad
Hopefully one of our guys here may have heard more about it and will do their best to post.

Just remember our mods and admins are in different timezones so you may need to wait a little for a reply depending on what time it is! Smile

Have you tried suspending the powersupply.. That was a old fix for something to do with powersupplies..

By "suspending" i mean keeping it above the ground (off ground).

have you got a friend with a xbox 360?? If you can borrow there power pack... Just make sure your Voltage ratings are the same.

try some of this and see if it helps. If this is the case, Xbox 360 red light repair is probably on your mind as something you will have to do to fix it. There are some basic repair steps you will want to take from the very beginning. First, start off by turning off your Xbox 360 console. You will then disconnect the cord that connects the power supply to the console and unplugging it.

In order to disconnect the cord connecting the power supply to the console, you will need to unplug the power cord from the wall socket. After doing this, disconnect the power cord from the console. You can then reconnect all of the cords and try to turn the console back on. If your console will still not turn back on, you will want to refer to the troubleshooting steps that can be found in the Microsoft knowledge base article.

To prevent this problem from even occurring and having to go through Xbox 360 red light repair, there are several things you can do. First, make sure that all of the ventilation openings in the power supply are free to ventilate. Also, make sure you do not put the power supply on a bed or sofa as this will block the ventilation openings. Lastly, do not put the power supply in a confined space like a bookcase or rack, and do not put it on a stereo speaker or heat source that can radiate heat.

i think at this point it has nothing to do with the power supply, as i have bought a brand new power supply and it still persist with the same problem, and i have gone through all the basic troubleshooting steps. i just thought there might be something with the console that i could do to fix it as it doesnt seem like its the power supply.

i have seen pics of someones xbox 360 borken and i was a part that came undone on a part of the mother board i mean itcould be the fuse i mean if your good at soldering find the fuse and make sure its tightly secure this will require you to open your xbox which will void your warrenty.

Have you moded your xbox at all or opened it and done anything inside? If so it is possible that a crossed wire or loose piece of metal inside is shorting out the brick.

Or something odd going on with your home wiring.

The brick is supposed to have a built in surge protector and I have read that MS recommends not plugging your brick into a separate surge protector, but I think most of us do.

And how long before the new one died, right away or did it take a while?

Do you have it sitting on the carpet or on a flat surface. If on thick carpet I think it might be possible for it to maybe overheat somehow.

i have not modded the system at all YET Surprised). i have yet to open the case, the new power supply has not crashed or burned up, i have reason to believe that the problem lies within the system. i do not have it sitting on a bed or a thick carpet, i have covered all the basic troubleshooting topics. is there a possibility that a weld could have come loose within the system, if i open it up and look will it be obvious, there isnt anything other reason why it wouldnt work correct?? my warranty is expired so im not worried about that. i just thought maybe one of you guys might have come across this problem before, but i guess not.
