I have been looking into buying a new dvd drive for my XBox 360 and flashing it to play backups so I can switch to the unmodded one for connecting to LIVE.

I have looked over many tutorials and forums and misc websites but all I can find is info that requires Windows to run a program to flash the drive. This would be ok except for that my Windows XP registry got screwed up and I now am using Linux as my sole OS.

Is there any way to use Linux to flash the new drive? Has anyone tried doing it? Would WINE work to run any of the required programs?

Im sure it can be done but unfortunately I don't have a linux box anymore to test it out myself:( I know quite a few HQ guys on here who do still so hopefully they see your topic and reply.. Smile

Hopefully wine may work but it will be alot of mucking around you can guess.. I used a simple guide a while ago for a friend running linux to get IMGBURN working..

IMGBURN on Linux using WINE

edit: that link was from my favorites.. Looks like its down.. Hopefully search on google for a mirror or CACHE!

enjoy the sites.

I don't think its possible to run linux on a 360 without using the shaders hack. Even then its pointless and no one works on it so not worth it at all.

Best Regards,

I think you missed what he said mate.. Smile He wants to flash or backup his xbox 360 dvdrom firmware using linux tools (if there are any) instead of windows.

Still no replies from our other linux heads so doesn't look promising.. A NO would be nice anyone? lol
