I just got a nice 5.1 sony surround system. The problem is it has no hdmi inputs. It has one Digital Optical Input as well as a Coaxial Input.

Now i know that the 360 has a Digital Optical Out when you use the component video cord that comes with the 360. I know that i cannot get 1080p from my TV's component inputs. Yet, when i try connecting the HDMI cord to get 1080p i cannot plug in that same component video cord because it covers up the hdmi slot!?!

i have seen this product:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360hdmiavcable/

Spending 50$usd on a piece of equipment like this is very discouraging. My TV doesn't support any kind of digital audio out from the hdmi inputs so the only way i can get 5.1 is if i use the component video cords. Now I can tell that there is a differnece in video quality between the component 1080i and the HDMI 1080p on my tv screen. I can see that the component looks a little more fuzzy and not as defined.

I was wondering if anyone knew of another product (maybe an off brand generic type of product) that was usable. I have even checked into port switches and have only found one product that looks like it could be a solution but its near 350$usd:

http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20switch%204port_toslink.htm

any help anyone can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. I really want to be able to use the hdmi for graphicc. If i have to bite the bullet and get the 50$usd chord then i will.

thanks

It may not look very attractive but I had the same problem and this is what I did.

I took off the plastic covering from my original component cables (this way the HDMI and the component will fit in the back. Then you plug the hdmi into your TV and the optical into your speakers. Just gotta make sure your TV is on when you turn your xbox on or it doesn't recognize the hdmi and tries to boot from component.

This is what it should look like

No worries,

Glad I can help other members and pass on my knowledge that I have learned, that is the main idea with these sites Wink

Also it would be much appreciated if you became VIP because that is how these sites run. No one takes a profit in from these sites, the money goes straight to keeping them running.

Best Regards,
Frozenfire1
