Okay well I took my project 360 out of its case and installed the talismoon whisper fan and wanted to make sure the fan worked before I put it in its very sweet new halo green case and when I turned it on it started flashing two red lights in the left quadrant. Sad It was not doing this before I took it out of its original case. These lights mean that the system has overheated and needs to cool down. It in no way shape or form was running when I was taking it out of its case so my question is how in the hell it overheated? Confused Well I am going to do what I always do when I get frustrated and step away from the project for tonight. I am going to try again in the morning and see what happens. Any suggestions about what I should do if I get the 2 red lights again in the morning would be appreciated. Thanks! Very Happy

the only time i've seen that happen is on one of the RROD fixes that i have done, where i did not tighten the heat sink down enough...

wich ment the heatsink was not in contact with the chip making it overheat real quickly...

So mabe your new case is not holding the mainbord strate enough..?

hope you get it going with out to much prob's mate.......

RB

You know that might be it! I will take all the screws out of the metal case tommorow morning and reinsert them again to make sure I have the motherboard tightened down enough. Thanks very much for the idea! Very Happy I thought it was weird that right after I powered it up it did the two ring thing. Maybe your suggestion is the solution. I sure hope so! Very Happy

It will also give you a overheat error if you don't have the fan shroud on. I'd put it in a case first and see if it still gives you the error before you freak out.

I have everything back on the way it should be and all the screws are tightened. And I am still getting the red lights of overheating.WTF???? Shocked The only thing I can think of is that the talismoon whisper fan sticks out a little farther then the original did. But the fan shroud is screwed in correctly and under the fan output sheath so what the hell could be causing the problem? Confused

Only thing I can think of is that my heatsinks are not making good contact with the chips. I might need to try a red lights fix. But before I do that I think I am going to try to put the stock fan back in and see what happens. I swear to god if the talismoon fan is what is causing the problems I am going to have a temper tantrum. Mad Son a bitch is a hell of a lot louder then the stock fans and from what all the ads say and Darth preaches they are supposed to be quieter!GRRRRR! Evil or Very Mad

Nope it hasn't I bought it off ebay and it worked like a champ but the 360 had been dropped and the case was broken so I bought a new case and talismoon whisper fan from llama.com which I must say they came through like a champ! They shipped it fast and everything was there and in good condition. Anyhow what I ended up doing was taking everything out of the case including the motherboard and then I put it all back into the case and carefully tightened up every screw and turned it back on and bam it works like a champ! I think the secret was that I needed to close one eye and hang my tongue out of my mouth and think happy thoughts. Laughing Anyhow thanks for all the help robbieboy I really believe that retightening the screws was the trick. You are the man! Very Happy Oh and by the way don't get the talismoon whisper fans unless you like the sounds of jet engines in your video game room! Son of a bitch is louder then 2 jet engines and I think my 360 is about too take off! But a successful install has been completed. Once again Robbieboy thanks for stepping up to the plate and hitting a home run for me. Very Happy

Rebel I don't see how you can say its any louder than the stock fans. To me they sound just the same. Even if its a bit louder I'd rather have them because they move a lot more air. I think they are great personally and all my friends think that it is quiter as well. Its your dvd drive that makes all the noise, the fans by themselves hardly make any noise.

Hehe you think you are talking to a newbie Darth? I know the diference between the dvd noise and the fan noise. It is definetly the talismoon whisper fan sounding like a jet engine. Granted it does move alot of air but the noise is pretty loud. Ahh well at least it looks cool. Maybe when I get my 5.1 surround sound system I can block out the fan noise with it! Laughing

I didn't see a switch but I wasn't looking for one eithier. It revs up real slow on startup and then hits the afterburners when a game is in! It really sounds like the 360 is going to break the sound barrier!LMFAO it looks good though and pushes alot of air so I am happy. Like I said I will just try and drown it out with ear bleeding decibels of game noise when I get my 5.1 surround sound system! Twisted Evil
