I put a chip in an Xbox1 in trade for a 360 with the 3 red lights problem. I did the X-Clamp fix and the problem went away. I have not stressed the box yet so I don't yet know how long the fix will work. I have heard of the problem returning in a week or so. I will follow up with this post when I have an update.

Bought the kit from these folks X-clamp DIY, before I found the parts list off X-Scene.

Left the newly fixed box on for about 2 hours with out a game in and then started Halo 3. About a half hour into the game I get verticle gray bars all across the screen. It came up fine after a reboot. MNF has delayed further testing.

Hi dartht33bagger,

Im hoping that once you fit that x-clamp thats all you need to do.

What i meant earlier was that maybe once your done you may need to try the hot air gun method shown on the x-clamp site but you will soon find out once you fit the xclamp and then give it some time.

let us know how you go,

hobbs

What the x-clamp method does for those that are following this but are not exactly sure how it works, is the original x-clamps that hold the heatsinks down (thats where the method gets its name) over time with the heat from the gpu/cpu building up, warps the motherboard.

You can tell 3rol, by the bend in the board itself. I have a few 360's and the ones not effected by 3rol, motherboard's are not warped, and the opposite for the 3rol motherboards.

So by taking off the x shaped clamp, and replacing it with screws, it helps disapate the force on the motherboard.

I'll look at the sites tutorial and see what I think. I also have a kit here that was ordered by a member so I could fix his 3rol 360. When I get his 360 and install the kit, I'll post my findings.

I have done the xclamp fix and some mobos are diffrent meaning warped worse then others. i would say depending on how bad they are i had to take off some of the metal washers off 4 on each on top so that the heatsinks would sit down right so it draws the heat off the chips but yet i had problems still Before that i should say but i re-adjust the heatsinks again I tell everyone do not do the Heat-Gun Method or that is a chance to make it worse. Also make sure all your other torx screws are screwed down to the motherboard and case this also can cause a 3 lights of death(after u done the xclamp mod).

What i did was after i did the xclamp method and adjusted it were i needed it right i heated up the mobo buy unpluging all fans and leting it heat up tell the 3 red lights go to 2 red lights then i shut it off let it cool down tighten up a little bit more but not to tight on the screws for the heatsinks. This worked for about a week and then of course i have the older xbox 360 so i started tinkering with it i used another big heatsink like the other one with the pipe and i put it on the other side moving the dvd drive out on top of the case.

Also i added heatsinks to all the memory chips and that cus i learned those can also give the 3 rlod. i also had to do a 12v fan mod on top of the case blowing air in on the other side of the heatsinks and then the regular ones blowing out and with this 360 i also had to leave the bottom plastic case off for more air flow seems after all this now i can play any of my games lmao. It might be a pain in the arse but after all this it works and has been working for awhile now.

Now im waiting to fix my other 360 it has no dvd drive key what fun it is now ha. Hopeing they figure out a way were u can use any dvd drive to a mobo that would be nice without having to have the key. (Anyone Know Anything Lately About This I I know People Are Waiting lmao.)

Ive done a lot of stuff to mine to make it work but as i look back on it, it was worth it to learn new ways and maybe figureing out one solution to fix it all. Thats what i like to do.
