Yep, shit out O' luck!
(I am, in no way, bashing Llamma! They had excellent customer service and stood by everything they said!)

I sent my 360 to lamma with a '0102 error code' and they fixed it with a 90 day warranty. I had it for almost 60 days and now it just shut down and I have an error code 0020. Llamma said if there repair didn't work the first time, it wouldn't work at all. They said they "heated it up, like putting it into an oven." Anyway, they gave me a full refund, which is good, but.......now I've still got a broken 360. Sad I know a few members here have had issues with there 360 (rs6 and Porscheboxster http://www.360-hq.com/postt823.html) ,and was wondering if someone knew another step I could take or if someone has a good connection with a Llamma rep, maybe I could get them to try something else. They can keep the money for all I care, I just don't want to through my 360 in the trash!

Anyway, I’ll probably keep it another month or two and if I can't get it fixed, well, at least I've got an extra controller!

I'll give a go at this, does it play fine then once it heats up shutoff?

Now there is a way to fix this, but the amount of work and difficulty is pretty high. It will require you to remove the cpu/gpu and put them back on. I haven't done it yet, but will one day do it. You need a few things to do it, and have to heat it up to the right temps and the list goes on of things.

But if it shuts off after being on for awhile, I have a few tips and tricks to keep your 360 cool. I've gotten mine down to about 35c on the cpu during a game, and 42-43 on the gpu. These are far more acceptable then what it runs stock.

I got some errands to run, but I'll check up on the thread.

No, it won't even boot up now. It was perfect after I got it back from Llamma for about 2 months, then the other day, I put a game in, and as soon as it got to the game play, it just crashed. (it was the first time I used the 360 that day, so it was cool when I first booted) Now when I try to power on, it just flashes red.

I think that is what they were telling me they did at Llamma and said it wouldn't work a second time. I really wish they would tell me exactly what they did, but I could'nt talk to a Tech. I'm all for trying it agian. There has to be some preventative things to keep this from happening.... if this is a overheating issue. I would get the upgraded fan, if I thought I could get it to boot!

If repiars are to difficult, I may be able to find someone in my area to do it, but the guys at Radio Shack say they don't have the equipment to work on double sided MB's.

Thanks for the reply!! Any help, helps out a lot!

I don't think llamaa took it all the way apart. Probably used the heat gun trick on it. It would be cheaper to buy a new one then to go threw the hassel of removing the cpu, and gpu from the board.

O.K. Is this a microsoft issue or is it caused from the chip on the dvd drive? I'm thinking if I bought a new one, could I do anything with the old dvd drive (if by chance the new one was a samsung) in the 360 ,like swap it out? (although that it's 'married' to the motherboard) If it's a Microsoft issue I probably won't bother with modding the new SOB.

Or could I buy a new MB? I know that just opens more problems with the HDD and DVD but I just don't like giving up, if you know what I mean. Would microsoft repiar it and charge me for it?..................

Damn, that sucks. But thanks for the help endless!

Its a problem with the motherboard, the solder that connects the cpu/gpu to the board is cheap and has warped on you. They tried heating it up to reconnect the solder that lost its connection. But once your 360 heated up again it popped the connections.

You could buy a new motherboard but would need the firmware key for the dvd drive so you could spoof it to your drive. But I just checked Egay, and it was slim pickings, remember a core system cost 200, you could at least recoup about 50 bucks for the dvd drive if you were to sell it on egay. The av cables, and power brick would net you some more money, making it far cheaper and easier to just buy a core and save your controllers and hdd if you have it, and sell the wired controller off with the rest of the parts from the broken one.

You can even sell the dead motherboard as well on egay.

Could it be reheated agian, or completly redone? If I could get it to take agian, I might be able to take your advice on getting the temp down, limit play and get a better fan. If I had known that there was a risk of this happening, I would have been much more careful. Is there a tut to go about repiaring the solder piont? I just don't like trying to sell stuff. I'd rather mess it up more by at least trying.

Or look, (sorry bout all these damn questions Embarassed ), If I went and bought a new 360, could I install my old Samsung drive, with the nme chip, into the new unit (with proper tuts of course)? And would you recommend doing it (opening the new 360), even with all of these units going bad?

The sheer amount of work, and tools that cost quite a bit, makes it so there is no tutorials. Its more for devs that do this for a living. With the chip, you cant update it with new firmwares, which isnt to great an idea. Theres been this big mess with M$ adding a certain check to the new dashboard. Its not known if they are going to start banning people or what not, but if you use your backups online, your going to want to remove it and get the latest firmware.

Chips are somewhat useless at this stage, they do something that can be done free via a firmware hack. Im not sure if you could remove your cpu/gpu and get the results your after, seeing as how llamma already heated it up. The solder points might be weak, and you would have to go about putting them back in order eg.. putting new solder down. I'll dig up any info in the morning, ive seen some but it was deep down in some forums.

But if you really have your heart set on doing this, be optimistic, pros that do this regularly still report failures, so take it with a grain of salt. Check back in the morning for links I've dug up for you.

I got you. I may try to contact microsoft to see how they charge for a non-warrenty issue. I'll pay up to $160-$200 to fix the 360 ($165 is what I'm getting back from Llamma). I've just got to much $ tied up in this thing to just let it go, prob $600-$700, including the hardware for creating the back-ups. If I buy a new one, I'll get the new one they just came out with. But, thanks for all the help man!!
