now that the elite is coming out and it has HDMI, i have a question. first off is the picture difference from 1081i and 1080p a world of difference? second question is if my tv only supports 720p, well it can receive a 1080i signal, but it just converts it to 720p, would i see much of a difference from running my current 360 with component cables vs if i had an elite with the HDMI cable? both running 720p. also would the sound be much of a difference.
im trying to validate getting the elite for reasons other than the extra storage.
opinions are greatly welcome.

1080P will give you the best picture, as the image is produced progressive rather than by interlacing the image. This means that there is reductions in blur and high-speed images look better in motion.
There is an ongoing debate as to weather 1080i is better than 720p with high action images (sports/games) but most people agree that 1080p is the best.
A high quality HDMI cable will give you a better picture than the standard component cables, but with a cheap HDMI cable you probably wouldn't notice a difference, I think it would also depend on the quality of your screen as well.

So what you are saying 1080p would be good if you are watching an action movie. And 720i would be better if you were watching The Bridges of Madison County. Where did you get all this info? I'm looking into my crystal ball and I see an Elite in my future. _________________________________________________________ At ease soldier.

IMHO
i understand the difference between progressive and interlace, but i was just wondering "outside of theory" and speaking straight from expierence from you guys with the human eye.
on if there is trully a huge difference from 1080i and 1080p..and if there would be a big difference in my box running 720p with a componet cable vs what the picture would be with the 360 running 720p with a HDMI cable.

Word on the street is that somehow 360 does quite well with 1080i and that 1080p really is very good. Case-in-point, 1080i up-converted to 1080p looks better than 1080i displayed as 1080i, taken from what I've read on the net.
From experience, 1080i is more defined than 720p and looks more clear and detailed. I have yet to see the 1080p of my TV because it does not have VGA and does not do 1080p through component only by HDMI which is one reason I want the Elite 360.
This is how I see it on my HDTV. Please note not all Hdtvs are equal even in the same resolutions. This TV is the highest rated TV at the time of writing in Consumer Reports (I think it was the Feb 2007 issue) over all Plasma , DLP and LCD HD TVs and it is a DLP. Also user preference does come into play. I happen to like fine details along with distinct blacks and whites with no motion trails and no color bleeding as my TV delivers. When you have this quality of TV 1080i is quite good. I had a 1080i 38" CRT HDTV for years and this new DLP blows it away!
So to answer your question , I can't answer how much better 1080p is yet but it really comes down to your equipment package for the end result. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!

1080i vs p well i dont belive anyone has compared between each other... hdmi is the best its truely digital 100% both in video and audio ... componet is not Analog but its not digital so its sort of super Analog oviously if you have hdmi its better to update and leave Analog behind....
but the tv plays a important role in here a big one _________________________________________________________ |FTP|Useful Links| softmod vs hardmod questions

First off welcome to the site boutyron. Feel free to ask us anything.
Second. There is no difference between a $20 HDMI cable and a $100 HDMI cable.
Why is this? It is all digital
Yeah the $100 one may have all the bells and whistles (according to the sales guy who is trying to flog it off to you) but it is all 0's & 1's.
