Seeing this heated competition between Sony and Microsoft, leaves me asking a few questions.
What happened to the price of console’s? The 360, and Wii have a hefty footprint, but the Ps3 has a huge footprint. But no one really talks of price, its all about “my system kicks yours butt, cause of this and that” its even instigated by the makers of the consoles. I think they missed out on, what about the younger gamer with low funds? Instead I think they took the “lets cater to the video game generation”, the older adults that have jobs, and have been gaming for years approach.
A lot of my friends haven’t jumped for a next gen console, due to the pricing of them. If my kids were of age, and asked for a Ps3 there’s no way I would buy them one. Its just way to expensive, the 360, and Wii both have a hefty price tags, and I’d have to think twice about that also.
Instead of all this fanboy arguing, why not start arguing about pricing. One edge I think Microsoft will have on the Ps3, and Wii in the end, will be the advent of the 65nm chips. Once that comes around, I think the 360 will be the better choice, due to the price, and content it offers. Also this memory issue that Ps3 seems to have, might hurt them in the end too. I won’t go arguing about how it doesn’t matter and I’m out of line. Just look at the delays on games, that were suppose to hit both consoles. That in itself should show that there is indeed a problem with memory on the Ps3.
What finally pushed me in the direction of the 360, was xbox live. I played with a 360 for a few days, and was amazed by the content it had to offer. I have no friends with a Ps3, but have read enough, to realize its online content is very lacking. I’m not really into the Wii’s controllers and, didn’t even consider one. I’ve played on one, and it does offer its fair share of features also.
All in all, I went with the console that fit my needs, do you hear me bragging about how my system is better then yours? No! Do you hear me nagging about what should be most important, pricing? Yes! It all boils down to what you can afford, and what fits your needs in the end. Let’s hope fanboys call a truce and turn inwards on the makers of their consoles, and scream for price cuts.

Nicely written.
When kids come into the picture i always think straight away of the Wii.. I know several members on our sites who own one and they are very happy and they themselves are not kids.. I see Wii as more of a competitor due to its price and availability then the PS3 but thats just me.
I personally believe in the end of this next-gen war when it all comes down to it, it will be the price vs. features that will win..
Let's talk 360:
Xbox 360 certainly has a foothold with their xbox live service and friends etc etc etc (i could go on) and i know for a fact its only going to grow larger. Ive found alot of PC gamers are slowly coming over too since the new keyboard devices which had been released too from 3rd parties. I also have alot of friends and people i know who were PS2/3 fanboys but are not anymore.. The main stanglehold PS3 had for years was the contracts for all PS2 only titles.. As you can see most recently this has changed.. lmao.. And thats another thing i predicted many years back.
Wii eh??
Wii is ok from what ive heard.. Especially since they have all those older roms available.. I still feel its more pushed for the younger audience with all the kiddy style titles..

Now what about Sony online?? lol Sony on the other hand have a poor online presence and have many years of development and testing before they come anywhere near the quality of the xbox live services.. The PS3 Dashboard looks like a mock up of the PSP Dash and thats one thing i cant stand.. You pay all this money and it has white text on a screen etc etc as a dashboard or to show you options.. lol.. I have no doubt you would be able to add background images etc but their base just sucks to start.
Do Sony have no desire to impress the end user with some sort of stylish theme..?? Well, none that i have seen yet... lol
The PS3 Home idea is a good idea i feel though and will gain alot of support.. I cant imagine me using it alot but if they add their achievements (trophies) area that could be interesting.

Ok heres my opinion on the console wars ill explain them in order of my favourite
360: I have had the 360 since it came out in australia and hve been enjoying it ever since. Games like elder scrolls, GOW, GRAW, R6V are great and more to come like mass effect. Anyway im big on the whole graphics thing i know the 360 graphics are top notch but im not just about graphics. The xbox live is better than the other consoles online with the marketplace and the achievments gamercards things like that. i also like the synchronisation through the PC. The only things i dont like about the 360 is the fact that the games arent HD-DVD which was an opportunity that microsoft lost. Also the overheating is terrible but I dont care that much about that.
Wii: I recently bought a wii and am loving it. Its a good break from the 360 as it gives a totally new type of gameplay. I also like the fact that it is fully compatible and i can play those great GC games and those 64 games that i grew up on. I like the channels idea for the OS layout. Certain things like photochannel mii channel and internet channel. The price is great for people who cant afford the other next gen consoles. The things i dont like is the lack of online gameplay and im more of a serious gamer so this cant always fufill my needs its mostly when i just want to relax and play some gentle gameplay thats very fun.
The PS3: I HATE it. I wouldnt mind it as much but the fact that alot of my friends are complete n00bs and all of them are PS fanboys they are the type of people who get shit games because they like the title they dont actually look at reviews and they dont research them. That can be forgiven sometimes if they are buying a cheap game but when u buy a $1000 console its just stupidity not to research it. I hate arguing with them about how shit the PS3 is i mean yes in comparisson to the 360 its not radically different (not including price) i would still prefer the 360 over the PS3 regardless of price but still just look at the $400 price difference when i tell them that they almost always respond with but the graphics are better. They make this assumption based on the fact that the PS3 is more expensive, Blue ray and the fact that it came out later. However many graphics comparissons prove the 360's superiority in terms of graphics. My friends also say its better because it reads Blue Ray, now im predicting that Blue Ray will lose against the HD-DVD because of price, if that happens the blue ray player would be an inconvience. Blue Ray also takes longer to produce slowing game manufacturing. My friends also say because the games are better. They say this because they base this on the PS2 collection. Good arguments............I have only played the 360, but I have heard that the Wii is cool _________________________________________________________
I have a Wii and so far love it, for simple yet extremely fun games it is great value for the money.
The 360....well, it has substantially better graphics than the Wii, but the build quality of these machines seem to be REALLY poor. If I could go back in time there is no way in the world I'd mod a console with such a high failure rate (I think M$ did this to combat piracy, just my opinion of course). If the 360 had the build quality that the Wii or PS3 seem to have it'd without a doubt be #1 on my list, but with what seems to be a very high failure rate it'd have to consider a few things if I was to buy another one:
1) If I was modding the console I would NOT chose a 360 as it IS going to cost alot to fix it when it DOES(not a matter of IF, but when) fail.
2) If I wasn't going to mod it and buy an extended warranty then the 360 would be the #1 console on my list. Games a-plenty and awesome graphics and game play.

When you say high failure rate are you talking about your own personal experience?? Ive never had a issue with any of my xbox 360's..
A few friends have sure but they have been fixed within 5-6 days and sent back without another issue.
I have no doubt that ps2 and wii would have defective units too. They cannot all possibly be perfect.
I feel that the probs that some people receive from their xbox 360's are mostly because of modding or just the teething process for a new machine.

One, I have to say that the failure rate of newer 360's is pretty low. Also take into consideration all the people who don't voice out, because their 360's preform fine. I have had no problems with mine what so ever.
Second, I feel Sony jumped a little early on the blue ray. Take a second to think on M$'s view on it. Yes they sale a hd-dvd drive, but said that if blue ray takes off, they would release a blue ray drive. Also to tell the truth, I bought a console to play games, not the next gen dvd's. It also effected their launch dates. Also the read speed of a blue ray disc is not up to par with putting games on them. Nor is there a need for all that space. So in my oppion, it just added more to the price tag. Whereas M$ offered it as an attachment to those who would like their console to play next gen dvd's. Which doesn't force you with just one drive.
Third, it all boils down to preference. The times have changed, and game dev's have the advantage. Why just make games for one console, when they can make it for dual consoles, and still obtain similar graphics/gameplay. Big one up to the dev's.
Forth, fanboys are a joke in my book, I went with the console that fit my needs and it has so far. With the exception of playing more codecs, but with the spring update this will be possible. So when that comes, the 360 fits my needs to a T.
Fifth, M$ is coming out with neat new addon's quite frequently. Im going to dig the keyboard. Plus all the additions that keep coming to live are astounding. Sony has to play catch up big time to get up to par with Live.
The remark about M$ making consoles fail to contain piracy is just plain fallacy. Theres no way they would take that route, it would only hurt them in the end.

Yeah ur right they do fix it quickly and there is no problems but the ring of death is a big problem it happened to me and a friend. Yeah PS3 and wii will have their own problems but the 360 might tend to have more because of its overheating i heard that the ring of death is sometimes caused by the 360 overheating and melting the CPU causing it to bend
