I just got my 360 and I didn't know that I needed a storage device to save games. What is the best route (memory card, official 360 harddrive, hardrive addon, etc.)?

I suppose it depends on how much l00t your willing to spend? What type of content you would like, Ie downloading any xbox live arcade games? Want to listen to your own music while playing? All about fitting your needs for the best price possible.

i have just a memory card hat i picked up for around $60 us dollars, i think, it was a while back. I do'nt have any downloadable content on it other than the updates for the games i've played, and i currently have 6 games. i do'nt hink i've used half of it yet...
i don't want all that downloadable content on my system, like extra levels and stuff, nor do i have movies or tv shows, but it works for me...

If you play alot of Live games I'd say get the Hard drive. Pretty much every game I have has an update you need to download to play online. _________________ At ease soldier.

I want to get at least the xbox harddrive or maybe a larger sata drive or something. Unfortunately I'm kind of alone in having my 360 (because I don't know anyone else who has one). So I'm figuring this all out on my own... or rather going to you guys for everything.

If your in the states keep an eye out on craigslist for a hdd. They have good deals from time to time. Egay is always an option to I suppose.

You cant write to a external hdd.. USB ports on xbox do not allow writing from what i believe.
Personally i would invest the money in a HDD because when it comes time you will be able to easily upgrade to a larger size once M$ release a bigger unit.

So would something like this not working for saving games on the 360 then?
well that is only for MUSIC and PICTURES and MOVIES...that isn't for saved games. But let me tell you this...its the GREATEST thing for music...there is nothing better than having a 10 hour playlist going and suddenly hear it stop because you have been playing for 10 hours and 1 second...its scary.
