I installed my nme360 v1.2 chip, and all worked fine. Then I took it apart to remove the X & Y connections, and while putting it back together I drove one of the screws though a wire on the chip . I repaired it, then began to get the three red lights every now and then, and also noticed that when I inserted a backed up game, the fan was not working. Anyway, I cannot get it to work anymore. There is a rattling in one of the compasitors which started a couple weeks ago. I could shake the xbox (gently) and it would work, but eventually freeze up.
I was told that you need all the specs on the MoBo to trace the problem out, but I don't know anyone who can do it. I found a new MoBo for $150 but should I get someone to replace that compacitor first to see if it works or, just get someone that knows what there doing? _________________________________________________________ XBox360 Premium

If your stuck. I am a component level repair tech in macro and micro chips and have the tools to do so. I don't do it as a business anymore but I still help out my fathers business now and then when he needs the sharp eye to find the fix. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!
Do you think I should try changing the capacitor before buying a new board? If I ship the board to get repaired, well.......it might not be repiarable, if you know what I'm saying. I really think it was an overheating issue. Will a capacitor break like that under those conditions? If not, what would be the first thing to go? And last but not least, I might need your assistance, so stay in touch.

you need to weigh whether shipping and the repair price is the better value verses a $150 motherboard.
The problem with repair, there could other issues besides a single cap or resister. So it could cost more than a new mother board to repair or it could cost next to nothing. Even a fried board is repairable depending on the extent but is it worth $200 plus vs $150 motherboard.
If you have good quality 5 mega pixel or better photos of the board I could maybe offer some suggestions. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!

As far as why it happened, well, heat can be bad but it is more likely a short may have blown the cap if indeed it is a cap. Can you say that a short was not the cause? A short would be more favorable to repair as you only need to find the short (screw thru wire has possibilities) resolve it and then replace the cap and any other effect circuit.
If the cap blew because of overheating then it is possible the cap was not a good one to begin with Edit: and a change of cap may be it.
or that the problem will persist as the board may get too hot. In this case it may be wise to go with a new mother board (other parts and components could have been weakened adding to the heat issues and may be prone to failure down the road). It does sound like the damage was caused by heat from your original description.
I'll help as much as possible. The only real way to determine all this is to examine the board. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!
I can get some pics of the MoBo but I've got dial up and it sucks. What would charge (ballpark) to diagnose my board? I don't know what shipping would cost me, but probably not that much.
How long do you think it would take to diagnose and repair the problem?
I appreciate the help. If your interested let me know. I am going to see if I can get this compasitor replaced at a good price first, and if it does'nt work, I'll be calling you!
thanks ! pm me _________________________________________________________ XBox360 Premium
