So I bought a hard drive, Created a gamertag on it, put a years subscription of xbox live gold on it, and then
the damn thing broke. Like as in the hard drive is not going to be fixed, no question.
If i buy another HD will i be able to recover my gamertag and get back my year of xbox live?

In theory it's just a case using the recover gamertag option with the new harddrive, not tried it myself so i'm not sure what gets recovered.
I think you can wave goodbye any game saves, but you acheivments should be ok. _________________________________________________________

Exactly, you will still have your gamertag and any subscriptions tied to it (Live Gold, Phantasy Star Hunter Badge, etc) just any saves or any content that you downloaded will be lost, but you can download anything again for free that you have already paid for. _________________________________________________________

great, i dont care about the saves.
im just happy i wont loose my $40 i spent on a year of gold.
