this is for spying there is no good reason to force it like that, what about voice commands? who the f cares? 360 has this but they havent forced the kinect to be connected because it didnt get sold like that, imagine if everyones 360 stopped working until you connected a kinect, and you had to go buy one to use your console again, there would be riots, nerds everywhere throwing controllers at bmw's. and noone cares about voice commands, phones have it but noone uses it. it is just a feature an option, but never a requirement. i have to shout at an xbox to get it to do something, and i eventually give up and use the controller, its fun at first but i find it just takes longer.
its about forcing drm and possibly spying on users. why even bother buying an xboxONE? once its hacked to run games offline, once its hacked to run without a kinect, once its hacked to play used games, youll have a slow ps4 and be banned from xbox live. look at the news, not the e3 news, the world is going gahgah at the nsa this week, its major history happening right now, the biggest leak in the usa's intelligence history, but everyone is too busy looking at ps4 and xone this next xbox is fishy i dont like it too many unanswered questions. microsoft are part of prism, so too will your xboxone be.

xboxone recognises when someone new comes into the room, it will ask you who you are, and record your face so you can be recognised everytime you play.
am i the only one that things this picture taking will be sent to the cloud, face recognition be run and every detail recorded about what you are watching, when you are watching it (facebook are already doing it).
i may be paranoid but this looks like the start of something very invasive, they already watch us online, our surfing habits, profiling our clicks, serving ad content "catered" to us. sure the positive side would be less time looking for things we might enjoy, but this is not optional anymore, its them sucking money from you, and recording everything. lol and you are going to hook your tv viewing into that little spyware console? im surprised it wont ship with rfid and gps chips inside. but they have your ip every 24 hours so they will get your adress through prism
its sounds paranoid but skynet will be distributed by microsoft.

That's a bunch of crap, xbox one will not be spying and Microsoft already addressed this topic not to mention the users of xbox one will have full control of what if anything is sent to xbox live servers. Who the hell cares if they get some data about your playing habits and by the way that is opt-in anyway
You do know that facebook, google and others have been and are spying on all their users, don't you? We now live in a world where it may be wise to act and talk smart. However, there will be no so called spying on the xbox one.
I use the speech control. I use speech on my droid. I even use speech control on my PC. Speak for yourself.

i am sad that you trust in microsoft so much, they mince their words with political delicacy, this is the company that was fined billions for devious dealings, bribary, anti competitive, thievery, they already spy, SPY, on you, they not only sell your details to advertisers, they actually go behind your back and share your data willingly. what makes you think you should trust them?
you are putting their eyes into your lounge for them, its not a games machine anymore its so much less and so much more. give me a good reason for making the kinect 2 mandatory and i will admit im wrong.

The Kinect is not an evil thing. It is a fun thing. If people weren't so lazy it would do them good to use it. Microsoft is trying to make this a better world, with not so overweight and unhealthy people in it. It's a big hit with friends, family and kids, yet they still have not reached enough people to make a difference in this world. I am sure I do not have to spell out how beneficial to all, including the couch potato, how being physically fit and healthy can be. So to only offer Kinect bundled with xbox one, now they will reach a much greater audience to bring joy, laughter, calisthenics, jujitsu and "Xbox On"
Really though, I think they want to expand the user base of the Kinect and they did design everything to work with it up it down it you name it. They really got a vision of what the user experience is that they want to deliver to the player or user. It is as ambitious as ever and a big gamble. Microsoft is very good at big gambles. Anyhow, I agree that they should have at least two options to choose from, 1 with Kinect and 1 without Kinect.
However, They they do want to deliver a unified experience to the X1 consumers they also want to have a unified developer experience as well. This means that if most everything available for x1 just comes in the box, then the developers can plan on that and not have to worry about, does it not have Kinect or does it. That saves some development time and lessens the complexity.
Anyway, you asked. I don't really think the Kinect should be mandatory and yes I don't think the xbox should still run without it but I understand why they want it. Sometime ago, people would complain that WIFI was not included. It was about a $100 option to boot. Then it became included. Then some people complained that it was included and they didn't want it because the wire is better. Now it is expected to have wifi included
I think MS wants to be favored in this light. They want people to think they need it. I'll tell you what. People do need to get off their asses and get physical. No one can deny that the main purpose of the Kinect is to move human bodies and noone can deny that people would be benefited if they did move their bodies, well except for some people
