The first Xbox 720 (Durango) devkits have already reached a select number of developers and are rumored to feature a "monster" 16-core IBM PowerPC CPU, a GPU comparable to the AMD Radeon HD 7000-series, and a Blu-ray drive.

mmmm.. tasty! But let's see how true this..

“Regardless of whether the next Xbox makes it to E3, the arrival of those Durango devkits is the starting gun for the next generation and once again Microsoft have beaten Sony out of the gate by getting hardware into the developers’ hands first. Sony keep denying any possibility of PS4 at E3 2012 too, but if they don’t move fast Microsoft could roll into June’s LA showcase with dozens of next-generation exclusives from third-parties. When Epic shows that first Unreal 4 demo they’ll only have one console platform to talk about – call it Durango, call it 720, call it what you like, but if Microsoft move fast it might be the only game in town.”

I think some of that story is smoke and hogwash. I dont believe for a second $ony would license Blu-Ray to M$ for use on XBOX. Thats always been $ony's trump card, why give it up? For media Im leaning towards believing strictly download only rumours before Blu-Ray. And if they actualy plan on packing in a 7xxx series card they will need to make the XBOX quite a bit larger and with way more cooling than we have now otherwise its gonna be an oven and the RROD fiasco all over again

There's no way to know right now but, Bluray is not so far fetched as Sony will make as much as they do by licencing Bluray to Microsoft as they do to anyone like Panasonic for example. They stand to win both way if they do.

Also, they could give Microsoft a shit drive like the one in the PS3 (F'in super slow) with the PS4 having an updated, faster, higher capacity Bluray player.

Anyway, things are sure to get exciting again! In the mean time, I have been experiencing the amazing gaming a computer can give me. Lovin it!

The blu-ray drive is absolute bull shit. M$ have always been pushing for digital downloads, and we can all see how it has come along over the years..
I myself like the digital download idea, since everyone can get it same day. Well at least where it's available in all regions.

If the 720p si released without a blue-ray or any other physical drive I won't buy it... Because I am not going to make a 20Gb download with my internet to be able to play one game.

Plus not everyone has an internet connection, so releasing a console without a drive will be a failure.

I want a 200 GB hard drive plus bluray. Then there will be no storage issues for game downloads and copying the hard copies to drive.

You hearing me Microsoft!

No physical media would be a very bad idea, maybe in the next next gen but not in the 720. Everyone is going to call me crazy and I agree that its kinda out there, but it has been hinted at before, the return of a higher capacity HD-DVD. From my understanding its a fairly simple process to switch from dvd to hd-dvd manufacturing, hd-dvd piracy is virtually unheard of, the read speed of hd-dvd has always out preformed blu-ray, blu-ray burners and media prices are falling like a rock so piracy is not to far behind. Just putting it out there Smile

I really think they should go for flash based media. Fairly cheap, better lifespan than disc based, and sky is the limit on storage space. And way faster than disc would ever be.

I have to agree, HD-DVD is superior to bluray as far as speed goes. I'm sure the data capacity could be improved if they developed it.

Like SPPV said, Flash based media would be the ultimate but 50 GB Flash cards will not be as cheep (EDIT: for the end-user) as bluray or some sort of thing like hd-dvd.

Digital downloads are great and I do them sometimes but I still like to have my hardcopy. It's special to me. Embarassed . They can't only do digital downloads yet because they would loose out on lots of business. Heck, I know 3 families off hand with kids that will not enter their CC in the xbox but rather go to Walmart to purchase the games.
