I have not played MW3 but love the series. I came across a news story about some player ratings for the game on METACRITIC. The web site gave the game a 90/100 while the players have given the game an average score of 2.6 out of 10 on the 360, while it gets a 2.1 out of 10 on the ps3.

It seems that the majority of the poor ratings and comments are saying the same thing... More of the same. Basically that MW3 is actually the 2nd map pack on a disc since MW1 has been released.

Some said you get a few new weapons, a MOAB in place of the NUKE and perks and the such have been slightly shuffled. Seems most of the fans were expecting something brand new, a step above the last game such as when MW1 came out.

Many say they feel they payed the price of a full game for what is basically just a map pack.

I know a bunch of our HQ-ers have the game now, so whats up with the game, I trust the HQ more than those other sites. are you happy with the game?

It will take a good month to be sure, but I am curious if MW3 has now lost its place as king of the hill, perhaps BF3 is king now. I did read a comment from one of the MW3 company guys, stating that at least in MW3 you will not be killed by a sniper you can not see. What? Thats the best thing he could come up with to put BF3 down? I think MW3 has its own problems with the sniper class, um.. Quick Scoping for one? Again not taking sides, but come on. Both game developers need to shut up about the other and just focus on their own game, If the game is good it will speak for itself and the players will speak for you as well.

Here was one review I came across,

This review is for the PS3 version of the game.

Fresh, innovative, unique. You won’t find any of that here.

I started off today without knowing what I was going to write about Modern Warfare 3, but as it turns out Modern Warfare 2 was a good game so by the same right Modern Warfare 3 ironically is. For that reason alone this will be a slightly shorter review than most of our others.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 pushes no ground, tries nothing new and instead just stays in its warm cozy niche where no one can seem to hurt it. If you want a brief overview of Modern Warfare 3, then play Modern Warfare 2 as the story follows on directly from it and most of the visual assets present throughout the game have been seen before in many other encarnations throughout the course of series. This does however feel like the finale in a series of copy and paste yearly titles. Modern Warfare 3 feels like it was just a test to see if Activision could get away with releasing another game following the exact same “take this, make it again” format.

A solid game despite lack of innovation.
Although I have many gripes about the lack of innovation present in recent titles, Call of Duty or otherwise, I find one thing that you can never fault Activision for is putting out a title that will sell well. Whether or not the game is a direct copy is irrelevant when you can slap a Call of Duty title on any game and it will sell like hot cakes. Does that mean the lack of unique and fresh content is the publishers fault or ours as the consumer?

There really is very little to say about the campaign, it follows on from the Modern Warfare 2 story. You spend the entire game being thrust from one playable character to another, making what was once a gimmick to allow the player to die but not lose, a core hallmark for the entire FPS genre. Scripted vehicle scenes are in abundance throughout the campaign. It feels as if you spend the vast majority of it rooted in place in some of the more heavily scripted chases that I have seen in a Call of Duty title.

All of my gripes about the lack of creativity aside; the game works. It’s what we’ve all come to expect from the yearly release of a Call of Duty title. You get your reasonable campaign with what is primarily a multiplayer title, which is what gives it all of its longevity. Let’s talk multiplayer then.

Unfortunately Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 seems to suffer in part from the same problem that Black Ops did. While MW3 is no where near as problematic as the original build of Black Ops was, it’s definitely got its own problems. Despite being touted by Activision’s own marketing department as the most ancipated game “in history” it seems like their tech department weren’t on the same page. In any one else’s mind, if you’re preparing for the launch of the biggest game ever, then you’re going to make sure that the server architecture can handle all of the millions of players flooding through the gates on day one. Unlucky for us, Activision don’t think like that, meaning that not only is Call of Duty Elite down and out for the count right now, but matchmaking is unpredictable at best and hit registration is still currently suffering from that ever annoying “I just unloaded a clip into you, oh wait, I’m actually dead” mechanic.

Solid Multiplayer experience with some teething problems.
While these launch problems are to be expected when you consider the insane numbers that are trying to get online to blow each others heads off, you would come to expect that the servers might have been a little better prepared.

Let’s move on from the initial problems and get into the nitty gritty of what to expect from the game itself. The multiplayer remains predictable, with only the addition of some new maps and game modes, all of which are plays on already existing variations. The maps are remeniscant of all previous Call of Duty titles, exchanging ruined city after ruined city with the insert of the random jungle based map just for good measure. The gameplay remains identical to that which was present in Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, and all in all innovation is definitely not one of the games strong points.

On the flip side, many of us gamers complain frequently about products that lack a certain gameplay mechanic or don’t make enough use out of those which are available to it. I hate myself a little more each time I enjoy a Call of Duty title these days, simply because it panders to everyone’s fear of change, which shouldn’t be appealing. Activision’s Call of Duty definitely sticks to what it’s good at. While innovation may not be the name of the game, consistency and sales figures certainly are. Whether you like it or not, the Call of Duty franchise has become famous for a solid FPS experience. Even though the game doesn’t really push any new ground, and for the most part is rehashing the same old formula; at least it’s copying from an incredibly solid foundation.

“If you want something new then you’re looking in the wrong place.”
Call of Duty Elite was supposed to be Activision’s stamp on gaming social networks. It was meant to provide all kinds of data for users to browse at their leisure, in and out of game and on their mobile devices. Right now the website is nothing more than a page saying “Attempting to Connect” or “Connection Problems” as it has been hit so hard by gamers eagerly looking to boost their e-penis, that it decided to give up all together.

If you want something new then you’re looking in the wrong place, but I suspect that you already knew that having no doubt encountered a Call of Duty game before. If you’re looking for a game that is going to be populated for the next year, and will inevitably receive updates throughout its lifetime, then this is the game for you. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 provides a solid multiplayer experience whilst never really pushing the boundaries. Fortunately for Activision their gargantuan franchise is what has set current generation boundaries, so where they go from here is completely up to them.

Yeah I have heard a lot more negative then positive about this game even a play on the game name of "Call Of Disappointment."

I really don't know if I will get this one but at the moment it is sounding like a NO as there is nothing new or fresh about this game and it's very short (not that there is much new and fresh going on in games at the moment) but I can definitely say it'll make the big bucks purely because it Call Of Duty.

But anyways it's all good I got other games to play.

i played it online for 7hrs straight and found it to be a map pack, sure it has all these extra perks, but the graphics make me feel like 2 years ago, in mw2.. Maps are ok sure, but the graphics and GUI are terrible.. Black ops is much nicer if you ask me. HQ Ozzy is a crazy COD player so time will tell if its shit or not.

Im not happy with the game overall, but i will still play it, Battlefield 3 is much much nicer.

So I guess the rumblings about BF3 and MW3 surpassing it have been unfounded. Ive said it before and I will say it again, companies are getting cheap and trying to package a bunch of cinematics as a game. Wicked graphics of course are wicked but when gameplay suffers as a result its just not worth it. Companies also need to learn packaging something thats essentialy an add-on pack as a stand-alone game at full game price is just gonna piss off customers. Dare I say it but perhaps its time for the COD series to end, or else take a page from Capcom and do a serious shakeup and keep the fingers crossed the fans like it.

put it this way, its just Activisions way. Remember Guitar Hero?? I knew it was coming to an end because they just kept pumping out crap when they should have released mass DLC.

Now its time for COD to go that.. Hopefully Black OPs 2 will give us all something to talk about since MW3 is just a clone really if you ask me.

i would have thought you s1mme, of all people, would have liked black ops better.. Black ops changed it up big time. MW3 only added sprinkles.

I played MW3 at a friends house last night and it definitely felt like nothing new at all. Definitely not worth the $60 that my friend paid for the game. I would pay maybe $10 for MW3. He should have just gotten Skyrim instead Very Happy.

Although, as a person that only owns COD4 and MW2, I guess I'm not really a hardcore COD fan. I rented WaW a few years back and never beat the campaign fully or played it online at all. Along side that, I only played maybe 5 matches online of black ops before I gave it back to my grandpa. The only COD game I really played a lot of was MW2 and that was mostly because I had no other multiplayer games to play at the time. My idea of what MW3 is worth may be different than others.

I still really enjoy playing MW/COD online, I would love to have more maps, I would not have an issue so much with them saying, Ya, we are not putting out a new game just yet, but rather are working on a bunch of new maps for you guys, and even putting out a few new weapons and killstreaks, maybe a couple more game types.

That I would be happy to pay for and even get a little excited about, but not for $60, Maybe $20. Plenty of people are still playing MW2 so they would not really need to spend too much on advertising, just have it as DLC that shows up on Xbox Live for $20 a pop, that would be fine,

But to put this out as something special and at the same time trash talk BF3 who actually put something out totally rebuilt from the ground up...

But then again, when you are putting a new game out for the same series every dang year, how much of a bump can you expect. In 3 years we will have 3 more COD games, Maybe they are milking the current engine for all its worth before they start on something new. Which after the current complaints and the success of BF3, better be in the next cod game if they do not want to fade into history.
