You know, I never had any problems with streaming media from my laptop until this new dash came out. Now, sometimes it sees the media on the shared folder but then I get the message that you get. I get the update, and mine still doesn't work. I think it's a problem with this new dash if you ask me. I knew they would mess up somewhere and it would be too good to be true, like always with MS. Confused

I agree
It seems to me that M$ want you connected to the internet when using this feature.Weird

Hi all,

Im absolutely positive you can get your divx/xvid movies to work offline on your 360 because I was watching all my divx/xvid files offline when i had no internet.. I had similar probs to DOA at first but it sorted itself out..

The way i think i did it was like this..

1. Turn on your XBOX 360
2. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT LOGIN at all
3. Now click on the USB HARDDRIVE with your movies etc (Portable Device)
4. Now start a movie.. it may give you a error
5. After you get the error that the movie cannot play log in with a new SILVER LIVE account.
6. Now download the media update with your new silver account.
7. When the update has finished log out of your silver account.
8. Now without being connected to the net start your movie.

it should play perfectly.

PLEASE NOTE:
That only 1 x media update is available per console.

Let me know if this works..

Sounds to me like you are only updating your XBOX LIVE GOLD profile and not your SILVER OFFLINE profile.. Hope that helps buddy.

Doesnt work cause if you r not logged in with an account you cant get on live to get the update .
Try it yourself Hobbs pull your internet cable out and turn off your xbox ,now turn it back on without the internet cable in and tell me if you can watch a movie from your USB hd.
Let me know if it works.

Just an UPDATE for DOA666.. Smile

DOA,

I have just tested my xbox 360 which has the latest xbox dashboard updates installed both online and offline.. Using all known techniques and my DIVX and XVID videos work perfectly..

I would suggest going into your SYSTEM SETTINGS then HARDDRIVE and removing the system video update file.. Im sure its in there.. Then redownload it.. It may fix your issues.

SO i can confirm that the xbox 360 does play XVID/DIVX offline..

hope this helps some of your guys.
