I was thinking about externalizing my DVD, adding fans, and improving the heatsinks, atleast on the GPU. I was wondering if anyone knew, or had a case open and could tell me if the mount holes in the motherboard are the same size for both heatsinks.

As for the fans, their purpose is to force air over the heatsinks, and removing the airflow shield, or putting in a modified one.

I was wondering about how to power them. I was thinking about using a whisper fan on top, as well as replacing the default exhaust. Would I be able to use the 4 pin for both, or is that dissimilar to a PC powersupply?

Would that be over kill?

I was pondering using an array of 3 60mm led fans also.

In either set up the fans would be mounted and vented as if it were the intake on a hot rod's hood. The way I look at that is that dust would only fall in when machine is running, as opposed to sitting flat and collecting dust 24/7.

I would also like power suggestions for that idea, if they would differ.

Yes, I sit my machine flat. There's something about up ended 360's that I find hideous.

As far as the DVD drive, I was pondering mounting the part upended along the side without the DVD, or something to that effect, funny how that doesn't bug me..

Haha just opened my buddies tonight.

Yes the holes are the same for both heat sinks (you could have 2 CPU ones Very Happy ) you would have to make a custom fan shroud though. Also I would reccomend getting mini heat sinks for the ram chips

You could add two 60mm (whisper) and cut a hole where the dvd drive was and face it forwards) or you could even add an 80mm in the top left corner

I'm not to sure about the power source but I'm sure another member will know.

Best Regards,

Thanks very much!

I was thinking about just using another CPU from a brick(going to start doing RRoD repair's in bulk soon, bound to pick up a brick now and again that I can steal from Well maybe, I'm pondering how many true bricks are floating around that someone tried to repair and couldn't...either way, i can pick one up cheap somewhere off the nets.)

I was thinking about mounting something on the front for fans, or a plain surface mount on top, but the hot rod scoop really got stuck in my head.
