OK, why would I want to go out and pay the extra money for a computer with Windows MCE??? What can it do (besides stream video to my Xbox 360)?

Why would I want to stream video from MCE to 360? Will the DivX look any better on my HDTV than on my laptop??? I thought DivX loses at least a little quality vs. DVD.

Other than the "Neat-O!" factor of being able to do it, what real use does it have?

Educate me!

OK. Thought I was missing something. Sounds like a feature that will be contained in a modchip. Thanks!

well considering there isnt any way to copy video files to the 360 drive, if you want to play anything other than a dvd on the 360 you'll either have to plug in "portable usb media" or you need to stream off an xp mce machine

would i PAY for a copy of MCE just for this? not likely... but id still like to give it a try. fortunately i didnt sell my old xbox, because i do alot of video streaming thru xbmc still...

OK, so if I get a FAT32 USB HDD, I could run video from it?

You cannot buy a copy of Windows MCE, correct? My understanding is you can only get it by buying an (overpriced) Windows MCE computer.

i just looked at a major site that had 16 m$ os listed... and mce wasnt one of them. i guess youre right. thats bogus, if you cant buy it to upgrade then most people who would normally pay are gonna have to pirate it now. sometimes m$ aint all that bright.

ok i thought you could... man the 360dash is a piece of crap. you can play mp3s off portable media, and browse pictures, but the video is only internal drive or mce. if you just have xp you can install the streaming plugin for the 360, but it will only enable the pictures and music.

man m$ has a chance to make a sweet killer machine that would make xbmc obsolete, and they f-ed it all up throttling it back to promote mce pcs. bastards.

WORD!

So I can't stream from a USB HDD? Dang! I thought M$ had some way of preventing MCE from being installed on a regular computer.... like THAT'S ever stopped anyone! But, for me, it looks like if I want to stream, I'll have to pony up for a Windows MCE PC! As I said before though, I don't see when I'd ever use it. I watch video clips on my laptop anyway... I think I'd like that better than on my TV anyway.

Also, the only video you can stream from a windows MCE pc is in WMV format. There is no support for DivX or XviD or any of the other thousand codecs out there, so it doesn't really serve a great purpose. If you were to splash out all that cash you'd be better off buying a shit load of DVD's in a store. Better quality and no hassle of streaming.
