it wont do that, like i said before, it wont go any further than booting up and after the ball thing it goes straight to this update screen, how would i make a live account without getting to the dash?

Hi digital_slacker,

Try removing the HARDDRIVE from your 360 and see if it loads the dashboard. If it does then your hdd is corrupted.Im hoping that is all that is wrong so you can get back on ya 360.

Can you still play games at all? Coz it doesn't sound like it.

Don't think that will help but i guess its worth a try.

You could always go to wal-mart and tell them that you got it for your birthday and that the dvd tray is stuck and wont open. I bet they would give you a new one.

it really sounds like your 360 is missing its factory firmware..
Im trying to find if there are any applications that will let you flash it or gain access to it.

Ill let you know what i find..

Post subject: Same issue.. aaaargh!!

I just picked up a cheap X-Box 360 with the RROD issue which was easily fixed but now I'm faced with the same issue.. The Purple Screen, and have read thousands of forums which have brought up more questions than answers..

I have heard that if it has previously played a game and it froze or stopped during the update then it must be rebooted with the same game (or a game from a similar production time) to complete the exact update it had previously tryed to install.. As I just picked this up I havent a friggin clue what that game was.. Another forum had links to all the previous updates and suggested burning them one by one to CD and trying them til u find the right one but all the links were dead!! I'm stumped now, as u cant get to the dash u cant get online to update, MS just wanna make money out of it, and there are sooo many people with this issue.. Has anyone else fixed this problem? I dont have a million games to try and am not the most capable of techs but i kno the basics..

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Try holding the sync button in on bootup that should allow you to get to the dashboard and remove it then to be safe go into system settings and restore it to factory settings then check dashboard kernal version you might be in luck and have a jtagable xbox 360 if so i would not put newer games in and either jtag the console or sell it as a jtagable console and buy a new one. Smile

So Hold sync button then turn on console and keep holding tell it loads dashboard if this does not work if you have a harddrive in take it out see if that changes anything if not hmm ill have to think on something else then ha.

Sadly enough, holding the sync button will not remove failed updates or the sort. You have to go through games to find out which on has the proper update on it. I went through the same thing as the original poster and did the sync button as well, but in the end no avail. To make things a bit easier for you, look at the manufactured date and start with games released from then on. Also look for games with the different waves(back-up purposes) as each wave carried the new update from M$ at the time. Hopefully this will cut down on your time searching for the correct one. It's all in what game had that seasons update on it. Ya, it's a bitch, but it worked this way for me as well.
