Man, am I frustrated. Where do I start?

I finished off Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 yesterday. It's pretty good, but the implementation of the "motion-sensitive" controls is rather lame. In a few episodes, you must drive a vehicle across various terrains. You can just "steer" with the keypad like you normally would, or hold the controller upright (like a steering wheel) and steer it by turning this makeshift wheel. The result is unrealistic and not very pleasing. Occasionally, you'll come across a German who you'll have to engage in hand-to-hand combat. Once again, you hold the controller like a steering wheel and rock the "wheel" to the left then the right, repeat ad nauseam. You finish him off with some button-pushing. Once again, not very satisfying. I'd rather just stick to button-pushing. The mixture of contextual movement plus button-pushing makes the "motion-sensitive" function seem very "added on at the last minute". Oh yeah! That's right! It WAS added on at the last minute! There are also numerous places where you must place a bomb and arm it. To place the detonating mechanism, you must turn the controller end-over-end, like you're winding up a giant toy soldier. <SARCASM>Boy, did THAT feel authentic!</SARCASM>

I sat down to play "Resistance: Fall of Man" today. The game doesn't load, but a message pops up. Damn! Looks like the PS3 needs to be updated AGAIN! OK, I start up the download... it's going kinda slow, so I realize it's gonna be a while. No problem! I'll just change the monitor source to "XBOX 360" and play a little "Sneak King" (what a freakin' creepy game!). I snicker when the 360 tells me an update is available. Just my luck! I start the download, and switch the source to the Wii. I want to see if I can go 3 for 3, but, alas and alack, the Wii does not need an update! I switch back over to the 360. The update is done and ready to go! I'm off playing that creepy Burger King! I play several "missions", then I switch back over to the PS3 to see the progress... 18%! Damn! I guess I'll go out to eat for lunch first. I come back about an hour later. All done? You must be kidding! There was a freakin' server error and the download stopped. Unlike the Xbox Live downloads that will take up where they left off when restarted, the PS3 experience is not so refined. The download meter restarts at a depressing 0%. Hours later, it finished! I'm all done, right? Well, you Xbox 360ers would think so, but oh no, you must now INSTALL the doggone update! Oops! Forgot a step! You must accept the licensing agreement first!

OK, FINALLY all done! Now some "Resistance", right? Wrong! The game STILL doesn't load! I'm about to dump a brick in my pants, thinking "Oh no! My PS3 is fried!". I eject the disc and there are some of my son's fingerprints on it. I'm hoping that the <GAG ME>Blu-Ray</GAG ME> drive is just very sensitive to fingerprints. It is. After a cleaning, it works just fine, but where was the error message? I'm spoiled, too used to the 360 telling me when there is a disc problem. After about 5 minutes of "Resistance", I'm thinking "Man! This game blows!" and I quit. Heck of a lot of work for 5 minutes of crappy game play.

I bought my sons "Gundam Crossfire". I now understand why people are calling it "G**Dam* Crossfire"! The controls seem very broken and the gameplay is incredibly S-L-O-W! So much for Sony's quality control!

Well, That's all the venting I can do for now!

Damn, I can't believe for setting the block charges you have to wind the remote, that must get old really quick, especially in Veteran mode.

I was disappointed with the game compared to COD2, the only thing that surpassed COD2 was the dynamic effects. The story suffered and maps were horribly implemented and not cohesively matched.

I want infinity ward back and my 60 bucks...lol, but I will keep it for the fact I have COD2.

Doesn't sound like the PS3 is such a great swap from the PS2, at least the PS2 was more reliable.

Yes, setting the charges does get old quickly. I never got shot at while messing around with the controller... I guess they cut you some slack. I did notice that when I was finished "winding", I'd often bump a button, inadvertently tossing a smoke grenade... <MAKING EXCUSES FOR GAME>but I'm sure that actually happened quite frequently during World War II.</MAKING EXCUSES FOR GAME>

The graphics on COD3 (PS3) are superior to that of COD2 (Xbox 360), but I bet COD3 (Xbox 360) is superior to COD2 (Xbox 360) as well. COD3 seemed.... short. I struggled to get through COD2 for several days, whereas I got through COD3 in several hours. But, hey, if they storm all the way to Berlin, what's left for COD4???? They probably don't want to start the campaign against Japan until COD10. If they go through it too quickly, they might have to come up with an ORIGINAL game idea, instead of just ways to improve the previous version's gameplay.

I never owned a PS2 (only a PS1), so I don't know how they compare, but with all the hype over the PS3, you'd think it was going to blow the PS2 away.

I'm sure Microsoft could come up with a lame motion sensitive controller, but, unless it's an awesome system, they should just leave it out. The PS3 suffers from Wii Wii envy... "Oh, we've got that, too!"... The Wii does a superlative job of motion sensitive control and it totally redeems the console for its otherwise lack of hardware prowess.

The Xbox 360 does what it does exceeding well. So does the Wii. The PS3 only stands out in the hardware specifications department. You'd think with all the extra time Sony had, the machine would dominate in all area... and you'd be wrong. I'm left scratching my head, thinking "why was THIS machine delayed for a year???".

I'll take your word for it! I liked COD3, but not enough to buy the Xbox360 version also. I might rent COD3 for Wii from Gamefly, though.

I just buy F.E.A.R., so I'm off to play!
