Mine was one of the First Gen consoles and kicked ass forEVER! But, as with a lot of us here, I was a proud recipient of a brand new baby...ROD! The weird twist was that, it wasn't on for a while or was being played with AT ALL!! It had been off all night long. (So, it is NOT heat related)
I got up on a Saturday Morning, and turned it on after being off for about 11 hours. BAM! ROD! After that, I've had NO problems with either of my current 360's. BTW, the ROD console was a Hitachi/LG 78, the current ones are Hitachi/LG 78 and Samsung/Toshiba (fw unknown)

Cheers!

'Wuulfe

Well, I had my first hardware issue. I was playing Rainbow Six Vegas and all of a sudden my dvd drive bay just started this repetitive grinding sound. Then a popup opened and said the disk is unreadable. So I ejected it cleaned it up even though there was nothing wrong with it and put it back in. I got the unplayable disc warning. I tried other dics and still got this. So now, I am waiting for the empty box to send my 360 to Microsoft to get fixed and then I will get to wait a whole month to get it back. This blows. I was having a blast playing Vegas!!

Well, add me to the list of those who fell to the fate of the RROD. Yep, last night I was playing COD4 for about 1 hr, then every time some one threw a smoke nade, my screen would checkerboard and freeze. It did that five times, so I shut it down for the night. When I went to play today, it froze 10 minutes into a match, so I shut down, disconnected everything and cleared the cache. Turned it back on, and it froze instantly with checkerboard pattern. Restarted and then I saw the rrod. I was kind of relieved and pissed off at the same time. So to fill my time while I wait for the whole process, I might buy a big ugly blu-ray player, aka the PS3. I really don't want to buy a new xbox until they roll out the Jasper or Valhalla motherboards (sometime in fall 2008?).

if you don't see me online, you'll know why. Oh yeah, console was purchased on April 25, 2006. I have 13 days and 5hrs playtime for call of duty 4 alone, probably the same for Halo 3, and probably double that for halo 2. Maybe close to 5,000 hours of gaming. I'm glad i didn't open it and mess with my dvd drive fw...

I will let you guys know how the warranty process goes, Microsoft got my request for the cardboard coffin on March the 12th.

I remember HQ M0nsterb0y's first console.. The HDD was dead before he even turned it on.

The machine would boot fine without a HDD but not with it. Simple to fix but what a drama when you just payed for it.

Anyone else had probs lately?? Im hoping to get a Falcon or Jasper for my next one.. I hear they run nice.
