althou that kit sounds excellent ms will have their own method as well , i personaly think like an exact image disc would be great for benefit , say yoru box dies or w/e you can have the option to restore it when you get ur new hd or console.... i wish ms would concetrate on that Very Happy

My mates HD died on him and he sent it back and got a new console and HD with all his stuff trasfered onto the new HD. So they must be able to do it.

Haha, fair enough gus. I'd also like a way to backup the drive tbh. Smile

Here is my thoughts on a larger Hard Drive and transfering your files. What I think MS should so is make a larger Hard Drive that is stackable. As in, if I buy a new drive, I would plug that into the top of the 360 and it would have a way to snap your old Hard Drive on top of that. This way you can use the storage space of both drives. I know this would make it a bit bigger, but it wouldn't bother me. They could also include a cover to cover the expansion incase this new drive is the only one you have. They could also maybe make it stackable to 3 or 4 drives. Of course, this may look a bit crazy, but I care more about the storage space than the looks. But limiting it to just 2 drives would be fine. There may not be enough power available to power more than 2 drives (or more than one for that matter). Just my thoughts. What do you guys think?

Yea, I would agree with you when it comes to the 3+ drives like I suggested, but don't think so if it is just stacking 2 drives. I think MS would have to supply some way of transfering your data to the new drive, and instead of including some "transfer kit" they could just have it attached the way I suggested. Plus you have the added benefit of more storage space over just the new drive, and lesser chance of data corruption that could occur over some kind of transfer.

Well, it would be tricky to make it look good let alone getting it working Kefner. If you look at the original HD drive you can see it curves down at the front, so if you had another drive sat ontop it would look really out of place.

I guess they could make the new drive without the curved front so that you original HD sat ontop squarely, but that would compromise the look of the Xbox if someone only had brought that drive don't you think?

Plus they would have to have some sort of interface and clip system to keep the other drive in place. The interface would be easy enough, IE a little port just like the original has ontop of the other drive, but as for some sort of way to keep the drives together?

I don't know, seems a bit of a pain in the arse way of doing it. Razz

Happy new year btw Kefner. Smile

Happy New year to you too, and the rest of the HQ.

I still think they could design it in a way that it could look decent. What about a larger drive something like the HD DVD drive, that would attach externally? Only problem I see with that is MS not wanting it to hook up to the PC so easliy. I mean there are ways to hook up the current hard drive to the pc, by either ripping it open, or buying one of those connectivity kits, but I don't think MS wants to make it that easy. If its just a simple replacement Hard Drive, how do you think they handle your original data. Have you swap drives, or some way to transfer? Maybe they will include a memory card to transfer your game saves, and you just have to re-download any vids/demos/arcade games. Or, what about a way to upload your game saves onto one of their servers, then re-download them along with everything else you have to re-download.

I guess my biggest concern is not having to swap drives around, and a simple way to get my old data onto a new drive.

Here's a kinda side question, that could answer the game save swap. Could you.... load up your game, then hot swap the hard drive, and then save to another hard drive? I never tried to remove my hard drive while the game is running, and don't want to try it either, unless it is confirmed to be something safe to do.
