eye toy was out before xbox original wasnt it?

and i dont think ps2 had the first camera for a console.

xbox live was an awesome idea so was hdd storage.

however ps2 had an expansion bay with network and hdd ports already before xbox original so even though live was all xbox, sony's console was in the hands of xbox developers from march 2000 over a year and 8 months of research later came the xbox1, who is to say they didnt pick apart the ps2 and predict what the expansion bay was intended for? what company wouldnt?

but as you said they were the first and they did it best.

but i wouldnt call sony the copy cats they all feed off each others success and change half way through the game, look how quickly the jumped on the market trend and getting users to develop apps and piggy back that profit train, android, nokia, apple, microsoft, blackberry?

patents are making it harder for them to do it now though, but it just slows innovation making it miserable to be a consumer when you only have one choice.

You pretty much nailed it, the orginal xbox had internal everything the only way to upgrade a hdd was to mod it where as ps2 you could pop in a internal pata drive heres something else I found thoughtful

Yup Sony sure did copy Microsofts design.

My main point is that MS will innovate before Sony. Especially in these console current console wars. Truth is, I like the wars because we all are getting better than we ever would have if this competition didn't exist.

However, kennethk, the cloud I am talking about is not about game saves. I think this is something that has gone way over everyones head as no one seems to realize the significance of what CLOUD COMPUTE is, note the word compute not computer or computing (close). You are talking about cloud storage, I am talking about cloud compute.

Cloud compute can mean infinitely vast game worlds that just could not happen on the XBOX ONE or the PS4 or even a $4000 super gaming rig without cloud compute. I don't know how well MS will implement cloud compute into console gaming but they are one the few and best companies to do it. Not only are they a powerhouse software company, they have some of the greatest experience on the planet in cloud compute with the hardware to back that up and have for quite some time now.

Now I hope I am right and they use the super 300,000 servers for not just data storage but also parallel processing is what I am after. Microsoft did say that games will benefit by cloud processing so this is what I'm talking about. Nothing is more exciting to me than cloud compute being brought to console gaming.

One could say Hostgator copied TweakedHosting since Tweak existed before them.

seriouslycgi1, eye toy??? That was a joke.. nuff said.
If we really want to talk about innovation let's not forget about Nintendo. They always seem to come up with new and strange things. The dreamcast has an expansion bay and was mainly used for dialup. The Genesis had an expansion bay too for dialup. NES had a robot lol

The simple fact is that half of users dont even use cloud services.

Sony already made a DVR console back in 2004 called the PSx so simply just saying they copied this and that is unfair.

Sony has this won.

December 13, 2003 was when the psx was amde a decade ago.

You guys are too fixated on the word copy/coping when the real message was about the big amazing innovation Microsoft is about to pull off which I didn't realize had no meaning to anyone. They didn't invest in another 300,000 cloud servers just for our game saves. I think this will put MS, as a global company, at about 1,000,000 cloud servers. Not too shabby but I think they really intend to enhance the whole gaming experience with cloud processing for maybe something like physics and AI for example.

Arent physics and AIs still data based? So if the server goes down physics and ai go down also?

[quote="kennethk"]The simple fact is that half of users dont even use cloud services./quote]

Why do you insist on comparing saving data to a cloud as to what I am talking about?

I am not talking about today with the current cloud for 360 is only for storing data. I am talking about an ability of the xbox one which the PS4 will not have, at least not at first, to run game code is the cloud. Can I be anymore clear than that?

We're talking upwards of 4,000,000+ cpu cores are at the ready to enhance our gaming for things like physics, AI and geometry or maybe even constantly streaming worlds that are dynamically updated with new content and so on. This could potentially go far beyond what any MMO offers as they are not cloud compute based but usually just a single or a few servers.. The code processing power just boggles the mind!

I guess I'm proof that a typical consumer just doesn't care about that sort of stuff as long as theres no restrctions, games look nice, and it's at a cheap price. Laughing

But what I dont get is from what you said here

They copied Kinect
They copied Xbox Live
They copied Xbox Live Gold
They copied the design of xbox one
They copied MS hard drive - MS was the first to have a hard drive in a console
They copied MS Apps
They copied MS entertainment experience
So forth and so on

Then you say when you say copied you mean a whole different thing? I just stated how copying material is a basic thing when it comes to cooperates and like cgi said.

Just becaise pf those 3 facts Sony has won.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next innovation from Microsoft in console gaming that has to do with enhanced game play via the cloud processors not their drives thank you very much.

What remains to be seen is just what exactly this will all mean in the end.
We already know that Sony will eventually have cloud data saves for PS4. If Microsoft is successful with bringing cloud compute (data processing, not data storage) to the xbox one in the games then maybe too Sony with someday have that too

Game over Laughing

No with that whole thing I was leading up to how Microsoft has been pretty on top when it comes to cool new things (not always of course). I'm mainly talking about since xbox 1st. ... but yeah now I reread my quote in your last post I now see how my point was not conveyed at all. It does look like I meant to hammer the PS4 for copying. What I was really thinking was that you might just get the new cool stuff with xbox one first and then get it later with PS4.

Anyway, most here clearly touted xbox, 360 and MS live and so forth before and now don't want to give credit where credit is due. The big deal will be who who has the best cloud gaming in the near future and I wonder who that will be. I hope it will be on the xbox one

The way you lend games on Xbox One would actually be great if it wasn't restricted to "once per game".

The Xbox One is better the only down is the price and DRM
