It has to do with server connection also I think some type of coding that talks to that countries servers is set to the multiplayer region, just a guess.

Which is why you're not really able to get into a UK hosted lobby if you're in the US.

I'm more than likely wrong but Microsoft more than likely has their own server hosts in those specific regions so thats why we have region lock because it connects to their servers faster.

It kinda makes sense.

Imagine how long it would take to get a game started if you're in the US and try to connect to a Japanese server. You'd be complaining that we need something like region locks. lol.

linux software repos have had a feature that pings all the download servers, fastest one wins, its open source, no excuses really, they could do the same.

it will be a copyright law thing, most countries have different laws so they protect themselves by covering the different laws with eula's, like in some country its legal to copy data and give it to others, i think its south america somewhere.

Things are region locked so that the same product can be sold for different prices in different regions. For example, Australian games cost a lot more than US games when they are released. Without region locking the games, an Australian could buy all of their games online from US stores and save a bunch of money. By region locking their consoles, they are forced to buy Australian games.

I'm sure if college textbook publishers could they would region lock their textbooks. Why? Because the international version of a textbook are usually 1/4 the price of the US version of the textbook. These international versions are always the same exact book (well, sometimes they do have very minor differences) as the US version, but they cost a lot less. So I buy all my books from international sellers to save money.

In the end, region locking is just a money grab. The companies want to charge more in certain areas, so they put in a place a system that will allow them to do that.

No, it has to do with price only. It's their answer to a suppose fair market.

Only a few companies region lock their games.

Makes me mad that games that are sold only in one country are region locked (NCAA)
