amiga1200 has enlightened me with some information on how to play your own backups on your original retro consoles, ie: SNES, NES, N64, GENESIS and others. I thought there would be plenty of members here who would find this info very useful, especially if you still have your old consoles around like me.

It's the year 2013 - We can now all play our backup N64, SNES, NES, GENESIS, and etc etc roms using a cool new catridge, the "Everdrive".

It comes in all sorts of flavors so check out this page:

Buy EverDrive for N64, SNES, NES, GENESIS, MEGADRIVE +more
- http://shop.retrogate.com/

Official Site: http://krikzz.com/index.php?route=common/home

Once again, cheers to amiga1200 for the heads up.

Here's some info about the N64 version and a screenshot.

EverDrive 64 backup cart for N64 with SD interface

N64 backup device designed by krikzz

features:
- 64Mbyte (512mbit) SDRAM for ROM data (max ROM size 64Mbyte)
- SD and SDHC cards are supported
- FAT16/FAT32 support. Unlimited partition size for FAT32
- SD to SDRAM transfer speed up to 12 Mbyte/s
- Emulation features
- Gamepack saves support (SRAM, SRAM128Kbyte, EEPROM16k, EEPROM4k, FlashRam)
- Region free - PAL ROMs can be played on NTSC systems and vice-versa
- CIC boot emulator - Emulates CIC-6102 and CIC-7101 so all games can be played
- No extra software needed
- Byteswapped and non-byteswapped ROMs are supported
- USB port 800k - 1Mbyte/s - USB port useful for developers (optional)

IMPORTANT: This cartridge will not work without a CIC chip. User should either buy a cartridge with a CIC chip preinstalled, or obtain a CIC chip from an original N64 cartridge and solder it in manually. CIC-6102 should be used for NTSC systems and CIC-7101 should be used for PAL systems. Do not buy cart with CIC-6102 for PAL system in case if CIC-7101 is out of stock!
Version 1 PCB is shown in the photo but version 2 PCBs will be shipped.
My cartridge shells do not have a hole for USB.

CIC-7101 + PAL N64 = OK
CIC-6102 + NTSC N64 = OK
CIC-7101 + NTSC N64 = black screen
CIC-6102 + PAL N64 = black screen

USA setup: CIC6102 + SHELL US
Japanese setup: CIC6102 + SHELL EU/JP
European setup: CIC7101 + SHELL EU/JP

Razz BUMPITY-BUMP-BUMP! Razz Embarassed
i just sent this quote as an email to a friend who wants the everdrive! (and i still need to try more games, only just scratched the surface!) Cool Very Happy
Quote:
...it's EVERYTHING i could've hoped for!
the ONLY two issues i'm facing at the moment is..
1, the onboard games that save, like RE2 and Conkers BFD, i'm having trouble actually getting them to stick as a savestate. i can get the nvram dump after i reset the game as instructed but it's void of the ACTUAL save in the cartridge embedded slots...i can see both zelda games screwing me there...
...
2, my TV OR an ED os error? dunno!
i know the n64 was designed for CRT's and my LCD IS a POS so i can't rule it out as a suspect!
RE2 seems to be the ONLY game effected so far that i've tried!
when you move onto the next screen OR summon the menu, the screen blacks out for a second at the MOST inopportune time getting you wasted by the walking dead!
it could be my TV or some "technical" issue with ED v2 that maybe resolved in the future? (i have no CRT to test the n64 on nor do i have a retail RE2 game, just a dump)
..............
apart from that one game and the onboard save issue, the games play FLUID as the REAL-DEALZ and i'm glad i got it! the memory card games that save externally (pad card) WORK 101% out of all i've tried so far INCLUDING the games that use the 4m expansion card
(i ripped the DB at krikzz for the ED64 and i'm considering signing up to place my observations tested on a PAL-EUR console, i'll dig out the CIC/card build info before i sign up! i got the CIC preinstalled version as it was all that was in stock)
....
the cartridge housing i'm certain was from a real n64 game as it's trademark embossed as a retail game...DON'T rate the stupid width of the SD gap, three times the thickness of an sd card!
...........
in all, a COOL 8/10 and WILL be getting my magadrive kitted out with the M-ED and a SNES-everdrive when i get a SNES!
i reckon some issues are getting worked on but if you want my honest opinion, GET ONE ASAP as it's a worthwhile investment!
(i'll sticky this response to a thread at 360-hq as admin made one in regards to the ED's out there!
talk to you laters, take care!

^^ will do!
i was playing "perfect dark" earlier and that has a definable save path...on the cartridge (EEP16k retail obviously) or to the pad mc's!
as i'm having trouble with the cartridge embedded saves atm, it did behave as expected directed toward the pad mc (socket 1/4)
i may email krikzz if this persists but i have a feeling it's something i'm overlooking OR something he's omitted from the ED/OS64 changelogs/usage info! not MEGA-worried atm, probably suss it one way or another!
....
yes, as i test more games, i'll write down on this thread how they behave!
100% working games i can shorthand but i'll be as descriptive as possible for the "troublesome" games!
i can't see the SNES/megadrive having too much issue as only a FEW games used saves/eeprom and all the rest didn't save, i have confidence the savestate will work as intended on those!
(fingers crossed i can get the CIC/FX security/GFX co processor/FPU preinstalled version of the SNES-ED, don't have ANY SNES games to butcher nor do i rate my soldering skills! the megardrive wasn't as twattish with the internal security as the SNES/n64 was)
Very Happy Razz Very Happy Wink
