I'm trying to convince hobbs that it may be better if the hq network stopped with domains and just used subdomains. Anyone else think subdomains would make hq look better?

^^ man of FUNCTION here!
i'm not at all qualified to answer that but as a USER/moderator, it's PERFORMANCE that's required here...which i may add is already in place!
domains, subdomains...WTF?!!?!?!?
as long as the site is fluid and runs properly, it's all good anyway!
(search can be a bit hit-or-miss but refined terms usually helps reduce a negative result)
there's coming changes and no doubt things will be much more streamlined as a result of the site UI overhaul!
if the style can be incorporated into function WITHOUT a cut in content/performance then it's all gravy! Wink
i haven't been here that long, still trying to figure out the ley of the land...make summat "new" now and i (and a few others) will have to "unlearn" all they've amassed and start fresh!
a new user (after any changes in site layout) won't really tell the difference as they signed up with the alterations in place, it's the OLD guard (and my own ability to adapt in time) i'm concerned for!
at least in my case, i wasn't here at the start of HQ so it's not like i'll be "unlearning" that much! (vs a war veteran here)
one can wait.....
this is a public forum so all suggestions are met with a nod at least!
(should i have any insights, they go DIRECT to the administrator first before i conceive a thread)
............
as it stands, i'm NEUTRAL to the idea on account i'm still learning the site UI layout but in terms of progress (without ANY cutbacks whatsoever) i'm all for it!
we'll no doubt be alerted to any changes before they're implemented!
patience is a virtue! (not if cash and women are involved) Cool Very Happy Wink

Depends on this host most I've seen give 10+free up to unlimited and the host doesn't even cost that much.

Ill highlight this once, Sub-domains may be cheap, but very unprofessional only good if your marketing items or branding something and would be a bit easier on the server, but the cons out weight the pros of having a sub-domain on the main domain.

Page rank will be harder to build up and the content of sub-domain would be considered less relevant to the main domain also search engines stand a good chance of not seeing much of the sub-domain when some one happens to do a search and wont be distinct enough to show up in search as the main domain would be dominating that space.

Basically in order for the site to grow sub-domains shouldn't be used it could cause things to get buried making it hard for search engine bots and people to find stuff on the site.

It might be better for the search engines and rankings with the separate URL's I think.
