Sucks to hear that, it took me awhile to figure mine out too, maybe you could go to the movie store and rent a bunch to try or something? I got lucky on the bioshock one, i didnt have any games of my own at the time and my buddy let me borrow all of his games to try for the update. I would assume the only thing you could do is keep trying different games, although i have seen somewhere on the net a package that contained all of the updates, i dont remember where it was or what it was called (I know a lot of help that was huh LOL). but maybe you could do some searching and stumble upon it, i'll do some looking of my own every chance i get. Yeah that sync button does absolutely nothing when I hold it down, I cant passd this purple screen of death!!.. I have tried without a hard drive and have just picked up a hard drive off trademe should be delivered 2day or 2moro so will try again with that attached.. I also managed to find a page with 20 odd updates on it and downloaded the lot, apparantly most of the non-beta versio0ns, but i have tried to install those from USB and a few from DVD/CD and had no luck at all.. The XBOX production date is 2006 so that does narrow tha search down to 4 years which i didnt even think of, gud point, Ill continue on my search and let u know how it goes..
I was suprised to see there is the same question on a alot of forums so hopefully can help someone having tha same problem in the future.. Is this just a problem on the older versions of 360 or is M$ still having this problem.. Pretty disapointing to be honest.. RROD then this...
It can happen to any update if you have a bad download from ethernet or wifi. Even with downloading from M$ can happen when burning a disk or to usb stick. But in the future, just download it from M$ two or three times just to make sure you have a good copy so if this happens again you at least have a couple of good downloads to save yourself Don't worry, the PS3 has the same problem, even more with the 3.41 update. I used COD4 to get my update if that helps. Had to think about which one it was.
