jus out of curiosity, was wonderin if anyone knows how exactly MS fixes the RROD. havnt seen any discussion abt it yet. my box stopped workin abt 1.5 months ago been tryin to figure how to fix it. read abt Xclamp replacement and will try that, also read abt an eraser trick which i read in another topic discussion. can anyone confirm how well the eraser trick works?

The eraser trick basiclly puts upward force on the motherboard preventing it from flexing. The x-clamp replacement is a much better solution though.

With the eraser trick, your causing the memory chips to run hotter than normal, which imo is not a good thing. I did the x-clamp replacement and haven't had a 3rlod since, nor do i know anyone that has after doing it.

While your in there, you can do a couple other cooling mods as well to help keep the heat down.

chuey, did you have the red ring problem before you replaced your xclamps? also did you resolder the cold joints? do you do this yourself?

just curious.
