what are these achievement points good for?
just bragging rights or can you get stuff off of xbox live? i know that microsoft points are used to get themes and such but i just got live for a month to test it uot and i'm not seeing what they are really used for...

For the most part, just bragging rights, but just last week, Xbox and Old Spce announced a partnership where you sign up on www.xbox.com/rewards and follow the directions. Basically gain 1500 gamer score after signing up and you'll get prizes. They will continue to do this for a while it seems with either the same sponsor, or a new sponsor. _________________________________________________________

It also shows you have completed the game in full with most games.
Some guys just play online and dont play the full game.
I like to complete a game as the developer intended it.. Would you not want to watch the end of a movie you've been watching for 1hr or so?
Same goes with games.. It a story etc.. If im into the game i dont mind finishing it.. With some games though it is just points..

I have never used gamerscore to brag about it. I only used for to show that I completed the game or to show how far I got in to it.

Since I'm new to this XBL stuff, I can see it tracks games being played. So as you finish a game, that's what makes the points go up?

with some games you do get points for doing certain things online, but that depends on the game. I know for sure Gears of War has some online achievements for playing in ranked games....and i think 2k7 does too, but like i said it depends on the game

Yeh, it just depends on the game.. Each developer can choose how they want to distribute their achievement points..
Some have online achievements for playing on xbox live and others dont.. It really just depends..
