Kreon released a new version of his firmware for the Samsung SH-D162C PC DVD-drive. This modified firmware allows you to dump original Xbox and Xbox 360 discs with the cheap SH-D162 PC DVD drive (no Xbox(360)-drive or disc hot-swap required).
XBOX 360 enabled alternative FW for the Samsung SH-D162C drive - V0.81
The time has come for a small update. A few bugs/problems was identified in the V0.80 release, so a lot of effort has gone into testing
V0.81 in order to provide a more stable and reliable experience.
Changes/fixes in this release..
* Fixed: Wrong disc size was reported following a SS extraction when in 'lock' mode.
* Fixed: SS extraction for XBOX game discs didn't work as expected, causing incorrect data in response table.
* Added: The speed of the drive is set to 6x prior to extracting SS data just like the TS-H943 does 5x.
* Added: A sense error 03/11/00 (Media Error - Read Error) will now be reported, if an unrecoverable read error occurs during SS extraction.
* Fixed: A few other minor fixes to improve overall performance an reliability.
This is what you get..
* Full challenge/response functionality.
* Two types of unlock for XBOX 360 game discs. One for making xtreme style images and one for making wxripper style images. Both types of iso can be made using isobuster. Ripping using wxripper isn't supported for the time being
* A 'lock' function that will cancel any enabled unlock state. This can be very useful for custom applications.
* 'Error skipping' which basically speeds up the error handling of the drive. A complete wxripper style image (including video) can be obtained in 15-16 minutes, when error skipping is enabled. Getting through the critical area of LBA 19408-20479 will take you more than 20 minutes alone, if error skipping is disabled Sad
* A much more streamlined command interface which is good news if you intend to write an application that makes use of the drives extra features.
* The drive will default to unlock state 2 and error skip enabled when a 360 media is inserted. You can in other words use isobuster to obtain a wxripper style image without issuing any commands to the drive Smiley
* RPC1 support (RPC-2 actually but with automatic change of drive region and RCE support)
This is what you'll have to wait for..
* Hardware correct timing for response types 5 & 7.
>> About 2 weeks ago we reported that Kreon was working on an DVD firmware for the Samsung SH-D162C PC DVD-ROM drive to allow dumping original Xbox 360 discs and extracting the Secuirty Sectors (SS).
Kreon now released a first version of his firmware for this PC DVD drive. It doesn't have all the features implemented yet (no SS extracting for now), but he's working hard on including this in a future version:
XBOX 360 enabled alternative FW for the Samsung SH-D162C drive - V0.5
Well ok...it's not fully completed yet, but I thought it was time to release some of the goodies I've made for the SH-D162C during the last month. The challenge/response functionality ISN'T included in this release, so you will NOT be able to make complete backups of 360 games unless you can obtain the SS from some other source. This said I'm quite certain, that you'll appreciate the other features that have been completed and included in this release.

The SS returned from the drive is complete except for the missing C/R data at offset 0x200. This is very handy since you can compare the SS from the game in the drive to a SS found on the internet. No more coasters due to an incorrect SS. * A much more streamlined command interface which is good news if you intend to write an application that makes use of the drives extra features. * The drive will default to unlock state 2 and error skip enabled when a 360 media is inserted. I've been working hard on the challenge response part for a couple of weeks now, and I have to admit that there's still a lot of work left to do. More than 6000 C/R related lines of code have been extracted, and well... I do expect the implementation and debugging to take some time ;) I don't know when this part will completed, but I can assure you, that I'll be working to complete this as my main priority.
Ripping using Isobuster.. Not much to add here except for the number of LBA to read when using unlock 2 is 3697696 as opposed to 3567872 for unlock 1. A successful wxripper style image will have a size of 7.572.881.408 bytes, while a successful xtreme style image will have a size of 7.307.001.856 bytes.
To those of you that might be wondering if this release will work with XBOX games... well it probably will... in theory at least. No extensive testing has been made at this point, so I guess you will have to test that part by yourself :)
That's just about it for now. I hope to be back with more goodies soon and that this release will be helpful to you all.
What is this tool?
This Graphical tool allows patching your XBOX and XBOX 360 Game Images with your own Security Sector file at the right addess, making the full process easier, fast and error free. This app is for those who wants to create a game image to play with the Commodore4eva hacked firmware (for xbox 1 or for 360)
There are other important features of the app like:
a) Image Browser, you can view the file structure, copy structure to clipboard, extract and replace files into the game image (dont replace an important file or you will burn a coaster)
b) Browser supports XBOX and XBOX 360 raw dumps, XBOX and XBOX 360 Quix ISO's. (some newer releases from warez groups are not supported because they are releasing in wrong format: Nero ISO)
c) Trim your Raw Images (XBOX and XBOX 360) eliminating the unused extra space from the image, lowering your burn time.
d) Create a XBOX/XBOX 360 Raw Image joining video + game partition
e) Patch your keys onto hacked firmware
f) Retrieve Security Sector from original XBOX/XBOX 360 games (read full do*****ent)
g) Mini DVD-Info Pro, this option combines basic functionality from CloneCD and DVD-Info pro, enough for our purposes so you don't have to switch from one app to another.
h) Create layout files (.lft) for WXRipper, so you can rip your XBOX 360 games in minutes and without the need of calculating any "magic number".
Mksoftware and Geebee released a new version of their guide on our forums on how to patch and flash the FOROS360s Xtreme firmware and make your own dumps both the 'xtreme'-way and 'wxRipper'-way.
"Backing up, Modifying & Flashing the Samsung Drive & How to Create Backups of Games you own"
What's updated?
- Process of making a SS.bin (v2)
- Some small details are also included in this release (v2)
- Grammatical errors (don't expect everything to be 100% correct, but it's lots better then last release) (v3)
- Included an overview (v3)
- Layout has been improved (v3)
- Included a tools list: What's needed to get the job done? (v3)
Gael360 released a new version of his tools to dump Xbox 360 discs with a PC DVD-drive using an hot-swap method (means you'll have to open your drive - see previous news). This is a translation from french to english of what he said on the gueux forums about the new release:
I just released a big update of my tools, you will now be able to find the 'magic number' immediatly, without having to scan an unknown Xbox 360 DVD.
So there's no longer a difference between known and unknown games, they will all be detected/dumped the same way.
The advantage of this method is that you will be able to use wx360 directly to open the content of the DVD without having to dump it first. After doing the hot-swap you'll just have to open wx360, select the DVD-drive and click the DVD icon.
wxRipper will thus have a feature to find the 'magic number' immediately, without scanning the Xbox 360 DVD. The features related to dumping did not change.
