Toy Soldiers HD (@ToySoldiersGame), the overhauled, upgraded, and better-than-ever action and strategy video game developed by Signal Studios and published by Accelerate Games will be digitally available September 9 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on Steam.
Originally released in 2010, the new updated version of the hit indie game includes improved single and multiplayer gameplay, never-before played content, enhanced HD graphics (hence the name), improved camera and sound and all previously released DLC.
Like many tower defense games, you strategically build your defenses while plotting your counter offensives. But unlike other tower defense games, Toy Soldiers HD gives you the ability to experience the battle from both top-down perspective and third-person perspective. Watch the action unfold or jump feet first into the boots of an infantryman and race across the battlefield dodging artillery while using a flamethrower to burn your enemies to a crisp. Mount your horse and charge the enemy head on with your cavalry. Pilot bombers and drop shells that pockmark the field below or strafe your opponent using biplanes. Go hands-on howitzers and mow down the enemy.
The original Toy Soldiers remains one of the most beloved and best-selling XBLA titles of all time, selling millions of units. At the 2011 D.I.C.E. award show, the indie game was nominated for best simulation game of the year alongside massively budgeted AAA titles Starcraft 2, Civilization V, Dawn of War II, Supreme Commander II.
Accelerate Games and Signal Studios announced today that the overhauled, upgraded, and better-than-ever Toy Soldiers HD is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in August 2021.
What makes Toy Soldiers HD overhauled, upgraded, and better-than-ever you ask? Well, besides improved single and multiplayer gameplay, which we look forward to revealing soon as we march toward a June release, the HD version will include never-before played content, enhanced HD graphics (hence the name), and improved camera and sound. All previously released DLC will be included in the campaign flow.
Let’s step back for a moment. The original Toy Soldiers remains one of the most beloved and best-selling XBLA titles of all time. It was nominated for the 2011 D.I.C.E. strategy/simulation game of the year, and though it lost, if you look at its amazing competition that year (Starcraft 2, Civilization V, Dawn of War II, Supreme Commander II), you can see how big this little indie game was.
Nearly 5m fans have experienced the Toy Soldiers franchise. They, just like us, were blown away by its mix of childlike charm of antique green plastic toy soldiers locked in deadly epic tower defense military action.
The highly talented team behind Toy Soldiers is the type of talent we want to collaborate with at Accelerate Games. Highly creative and armed with a unique voice. We’re thrilled to help them bring their new game to you, the fans.

Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games spoke out about the way piracy is killing the PC game biz and forcing them on to a console.
He said, “Well one of the key things that is really affecting the economics and the success of gaming in general is piracy on the PC,” he said, talking at GDC. “So one of the reasons we’ll see RTSs on the console is because people can’t pirate it. That’s why we’re going to see a lot more of everything on the console. When you look at the sales of really hardcore games like Crysis and you think, ‘Wow, those games should have sold a lot more,’ you realize that’s probably due in large part to piracy. And you realize that a game like Crysis would have done its true numbers if it had launched on console first.”
Aspyr is overseeing the final touches being put on an ambitious project for the Xbox 360, the porting of the massive real-time strategy by Gas Powered Games called Supreme Commander, which is currently targeted for a March release. TeamXbox was recently visited by representatives from Aspyr, GPG and the game’s Canadian developer, Hellbent Games, and what they showed was impressive in its scope, as well as its results.
Gas Powered Games' real-time strategy PC hit confirmed for release on Microsoft's console early next year.
Last month, Gas Powered Games founder Chris Taylor let slip in an interview that he was bringing his PC real-time strategy game Supreme Commander to consoles. THQ was mum on the subject at the time, for reasons made clear today.
Supreme Commander has indeed been announced for the Xbox 360 this morning. However, the company confirming the fact is not THQ, but Austin-based publisher Aspyr Media. Aspyr has teamed up with upstart British Columbia-based studio Hellbent Games to bring Supreme Commander to Microsoft's console. This will be the publisher's first title for the Xbox 360.
Beyond simply adapting the PC game's interface to work with a standard controller, Hellbent and Aspyr are adding exclusive new units, additional multiplayer modes, and tweaked maps. Naturally, players will be able to test their strategic aptitude against one another over Xbox Live.
