    The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has been doing a little research on gamer demographics and i must say i found a good bit of what they have learned to be truly surprising, it wasn't so much about who is playing video games but more about the numbers linked to them.

    A look at what the ESA has learned with this study:

    "This new data underscores the fundamental principle that computer and video games are a mainstream entertainment form, which captures the imagination of every segment of our society," said Michael D. Gallagher, CEO of the ESA, the U.S. association representing computer and video game publishers. "No longer is there a stereotypical gamer. With deeper market penetration and the broadening of our audience base, video games have incorporated themselves into America's cultural and social fabric."

    Among the survey's main findings:

  • 65 percent of American households play computer and video games;
  • 38 percent of American homes have a video game console;
  • The average game player is 35 years old;
  • One out of four gamers are over age 50;
  • Women age 18 or older represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (33 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (18 percent); and,
  • 41 percent of Americans expect to purchase one or more games this year.

    The new research also shows how involved parents are in the way their children buy, rent and play games:

  • 94 percent of parents are present when games are purchased or rented;
  • 88 percent of parents report always or sometimes monitoring the games their children play; and,
  • 63 percent of parents believe games are a positive part of their children's lives.

    The 2008 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry also includes statistics on the top selling titles and genres of 2007, provided by The NPD Group. Based on unit sales, 85 percent of the games sold last year were rated “Everyone (E)," "Everyone 10+ (E10+)" or “Teen (T)." While only 15 percent of the games sold in 2007 were rated "Mature (M)."

    Looks like Rock Band info is leaking like an old boat, according to kotaku.com a thread over on the ScoreHero forums (now wiped clean by moderators) had listed a few more songs that are apparently due to appear in Rock Band 2 and it is looking good my friend.

    Lots of good stuff here to pick from for sure and even one i know will interest the HQ's own Hobb's, I myself cant wait to get my hands on some man in the box action.

    So here is the full list of songs rumored to have been leaked:

  • "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park
  • "Peace Sells" by Megadeth (Look Hobb's :) )
  • "Testify" by Rage Against The Machine
  • "American Woman" by The Guess Who
  • "White Wedding" by Billy Idol
  • "You Oughta Know" by Allanis Morrisette
  • "Aqua Lung" by Jethro Tull
  • "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett
  • "Drain You" by Nirvana
  • "Man in the Box" by Alice In Chains
  • "Spoonman" by Soundgarden
  • "We Got The Beat" by the Go-Gos

    The previously leaked list was rumored to include the following tracks:

  • "Panic Attack" by Dream Theater or Finger Eleven
  • "Chop Suey" by System of a Down
  • "Give It Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • "Everlong" by Foo Fighters
  • "Kids In America" by Kim Wilde
  • "Ace of Spades" by Motörhead
  • "Hello There" by Cheap Trick
  • "Anyway You Want It" by Journey

    Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Fan Pack Set For July
    Published by: wes213 on Saturday, June 28, 2008
    Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360,

    Ubisoft today announced the Fan Pack for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, a downloadable content update for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of its tactical shooter.
    Slated for free download next month, the Fan Pack offers a total of three new multiplayer maps, which includes the fan favorite Calypso Casino map from the first Rainbow Six Vegas title. Two relit versions of existing maps Murdertown and CQB Training are also planned for the pack.

    The video should explain it all but just in case here is the Packs full run down:

  • New Ranks
    An additional 99 Elite Ranks have been added for bragging rights. For those of you who are already Elite, you may have noticed that your XP continued to accumulate while playing. Once you have the update, your XP will automatically be applied towards the new Elite ranks, so it is possible that you have already ranked up multiple times past Elite.

  • New A.C.E.S.
    A total of 100 A.C.E.S. are available for each category: Marksman, CQB and Assault. Each A.C.E.S. level past 20 will reward you with 5000 XP that applies to your rank. For players who have already reached A.C.E.S. 20 and continued to collect A.C.E.S. points, you will be happy to know that the update will automatically advance you to the level you have earned. For example, if you have enough A.C.E.S. points to reach Marksman 25, you will automatically be at Marksman 25 and earn 25000 (5000 x 5) towards your next Rank.

  • Grenade Indicator
    When you are within the damage radius of a Frag or Incendiary grenade, an indicator will appear on-screen telling you which direction it is. The indicator can show multiple grenades at once.

    This list is huge so be sure to select read more for the full list and all the awsome add ons this DLC contains.

     Brian Farrell's Take On Saints Row 2
    Brian Farrell's Take On Saints Row 2

    VG247 reports that at an investors meeting at the William Blair & Company in Chicago THQ CEO Brian Farrell had a few words on this game and they all seem vary promising in the way of game play and action, he even went to to describe the game as: “silly, over the top game play.”

    Saints Row 2 Screenshot 4462

    On the subject of GTA and its effect on Saint Row Farrell said: “We’re always concerned about GTA as a competitor. It’s a great product, the leader in the genre. But we were actually very pleased when we saw GTA IV. It’s a great game, but they went in this great creative direction [that makes the game] more character- and story-driven,” so it seems Saints Row 2 is less about the story and more about outrages game play which is not a bad thing at all to me.

    Saints Row 2 will have lots of features like character customization, down loadable content, larger, richer environment, a unique combat system and a seamless two-player co-op mode.

    Looks like the gh franchise is growing again with the news release of gh- metallica.No word on content yet although it has been reported the game will portray the story of the bands uprising much the same as gh-aerosmith.

    The news was revealed after an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities found mention of the title in an SEC filing by Activision.

    Bring it on I hear ya say.....Now we can all really enjoy the Guitar Hero.... No word on a official track list yet but in my opinion that won't matter... Looking at Guitar Hero and Rock Band tracks from the gods of rock it seems it will be above average on the difficulty scale as the tracks already out on previous games are at the top end of the learning curve except for one of them.

    Will this set the music genre alive in 2009 along with Guitar Hero:Aeroesmith, Guitar Hero World Tour and rock revolution??? Only time will tell.

    My money is on Guitar Hero: Metallica to be a stand out for the new kits available just before the release of this title.

    Why The Power Co. Loves Video Games

    Reuters has posted a story on a Australian consumer agency study that is pointing it's finger at game consoles and plasma TV's as the number 1 source of household electronics electricity consumption and even went as far as to say "Australian consumer agency study has found that video game consoles and plasma flat-screen TVs are major electricity guzzlers, even when left on stand-by."

    "The recent study by Choice said Sony Corp's Playstation 3, closely followed by Microsoft's Xbox 360 and plasma television sets, consumed the most power out of a list of 16 electronic devices tested, including laptops, stereo systems and DVD players."

    "Our tests found that leaving a Playstation 3 on while not in use would cost almost... five times more than it would take to run a refrigerator for the same yearly period," said the study which was published on Choice's website www.choice.com.au.

    And just to round out the report "The plasma TV set was also a power hungry device, consuming over four times more power than a traditional analogue set. The average desktop computer was third on the list."

    So keep in mind when you get your bill that keeping your TV and console in standby is costing you more then you think.
