 Top Global Markets Say GTA IV is this year’s top seller
Top Global Markets Say GTA IV is this year’s top seller
Published by: wes213 on Thursday, August 21, 2008

Looks like this years biggest and badest games have been announced and the first place game is no big surprise since it has been one of the hottest titles since RockStar started putting it out there, what i did find a bit shocking is that three of the top five games are not cross platform games but Wii exclusive games. (Who would have guessed that?)

Grand Theft Auto IV Screenshot 4082

Chart-Track Limited and Enterbrain, Inc. reported the following: “The leading games information sources in the U.S, U.K. and Japan – the largest games markets in the world – have joined forces to provide the gaming industry with a single source for sales data providing detailed insight into what’s happening in these important markets.”

“The video games business has become increasingly global, with the majority of the publishers releasing games in multiple markets,” said Anita Frazier, industry analyst, The NPD Group. “The U.S, as the world’s largest market will be able to view and compare sales for the first time outside of their own market.”

Top 5 listed below.

* GRAND THEFT AUTO IV 6,293,000
* SUPER SMASH BROS: BRAWL 5,433,000
* MARIO KART WII 4,697,000
* WII FIT 3,604,000
* GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK 3,475,000

The man, the myth, the legend, OZZY will be on Guitar Hero World Tour:

After performing in countless sold-out arenas and amphitheaters throughout the world, rock's defining frontman Ozzy Osbourne – who has sold over 100 million records worldwide in his four decade career – will be playing to a new audience this fall as he makes his videogame debut in Activision Publishing, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero World Tour.

Budding rockstars around the world will have the opportunity to live out their ultimate fantasy on the virtual OZZFest stage, playing as Ozzy, or alongside him, as he wails to iconic rock track "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley," both from his quintuple platinum debut solo album Blizzard of Ozz. OZZFest, now it its 13th year, has also been created digitally as an in-game venue exclusively for Guitar Hero World Tour to host the heavy metal rock legend.

Joining Ozzy in Guitar Hero World Tour as a playable character is his lead axe-shredder and founder of Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde, performing their hit track "Stillborn."

In addition to Metallica releasing their highly anticipated Death Magnetic album in its entirety as downloadable content in both Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero World Tour, the 2008 OZZFest performers and GRAMMY winning recording artists will be appearing for their on-disc encore with "Trapped Under Ice." Finally, taking the Guitar Hero stage for the first time is fellow OZZFest artist, System of a Down with their 2006 GRAMMY for Best Hard Rock Performance winning single "B.Y.O.B."

When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of guitarists, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Guitar Hero World Tour. The latest installment in the #1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero's signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless instruments with new revolutionary online* and offline gameplay modes including Band Career and 8-player "Battle of the Bands," which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online for the first time ever. The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock 'n' roll anthems. Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunesSM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations.

Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB. Its almost time to buck up and show your pride for the forth of July America and i cant think of a better way to do that then to set on your big hairy burger eating butt and play the theme song from from Top Gun in dirty boxers all day long.

If this sounds like your cup of tea then get ready for the time of your life, Activision is releasing the "Top Gun Anthem" as down loadable content for Guitar Hero III on July third so you can practice enough to really show your pride on July forth.

For the fans out there that know better this will not be the song (Highway to Danger Zone), no it will be this track right here:

The song will be available to mavericks and their wingmen everywhere on July 3, 2008 and will be out for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.

Disclaimer: side effects of over playing this track include huge 80's hair, the uncontrollable urge to wear really shiny clothes, the need to pose and make metro sexual faces while holding your guitar next to your head and in some rare cases subjects have noticed mild anal leakage and all around douche bag behavior.

Please enjoy this down-loadable content in moderation.

Call of Duty 4 sold 10 million units

With 10 million copy's sold Call of Duty 4 has moved in to an exclusive league that vary few games have or will ever make it to, games like Guitar Hero III, Halo 3, and Grand Theft Auto IV and with a bit of luck maybe Call Of Duty 5 will join the club if producer Tryarch can reproduce the Inifinity Ward magic.

Cnet reported that "Infinity Ward studio head Vince Zampella didn't know exactly how many units the game had sold on each platform it is available on--the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC--but did say that COD 4 had been most successful on the Xbox."

The out look for the COD series is good but Cnet reported "Zampella acknowledged that COD 4 has set the bar very high for his studio, and it's hard to imagine Infinity Ward being able to come right back with another 10 million-seller but, COD 4 still has some juice left. He suggested that the game is still selling, that it's map pack add-on has sold 1.5 million copies, and that the main game itself is expected to sell a lot more copies this holiday season.

 Guitar Hero Not All About The Guitar?
Guitar Hero Not All About The Guitar?

For some time now we have seen a battle being played out between Guitar Hero III and Rock Band and it looks like the Guitar Hero franchise might be taking notes on whats helping Rock Band pull out in front.

In an interview with Conde Nast Portfolio magazine Activisions CEO Bobby Kotick has been quoted as saying "It's not just about guitars, we'll include a lot of other instruments, vocals. It will help us expand internationally. It's the first game we've had in which we can use local content and local bands."

I still feel this battle has more to do with the available DLC and that it is the major factor in who will come out on top but as we all know every little bit helps.
