What is sure to be an epic and amazing online live game possibly coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox 720 and PS4 is Destiny, an open universe cooperative online and dynamically changing game. Bungie reveals more details and some story narratives in the documentary short video called 'Pathways Out Of Darkness'

News Flash:
Destiny is the newest First Person Shooter from Bungie, the video game developers that brought us Halo and forever changed the way FPS are played. The release date and platforms have not been specified, although I wouldn’t be surprised if the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 make the list in addition to the current Xbox 360 and PS3.

Pathways out of darkness is probably a reference to Bungie's very first First Person Shooter developed for the Mac only called Pathways Into Darkness. But it also refers to how humanity is pulling itself from the rubble of a war that destroyed the Earth, leaving much of it under the control of hostile aliens. Destiny will be a game that spans 10 years in real life terms…that’s right, 10 years!

According to NBC, Bungie president Harold Ryan said in the Destiny announcement will be a “shared-world shooter” that is constantly online, yet a single player shooter if you so desire:

“‘Destiny’ is the game that we’ve been dreaming of building for years. Destiny’ will draw players into a world filled with mystery, action, and adventure, but most importantly, ‘Destiny’ is more than a disc in a drive, it is a living social universe filled with other players.”

Tech Spot describes what makes Destiny different from all the other FPS games out there:

“Destiny is described as a sci-fi first-person shooter that once again pits humans against an alien race. Gamers will take the role of a “Guardian”, a human survivor trying to reclaim what’s being taken from them. The overall atmosphere is described as much darker and ominous than past Bungie games.

“Destiny will have a story campaign with a multiplayer aspect much like Halo, however this time around there will be greater emphasis on social interaction that will allow you to play with friends as well as strangers.

“All of this will be done seamlessly, Bungie says. There will be no co-op servers or having to wait for other players to join the game. If the server recognizes two players on the same mission or in the same geographical region, the game will merge their journeys together.

This might sound like a FPS MMO but it’s not. If anything, the way that Destiny sets up a large scale Cooperative play war sound similar to the Spartan Wars in Halo 4, although that title was developed by 343 Industries and not Bungie. The main difference is that the world of Destiny will actually be changing, while Spartan Wars has static missions. Destiny will constantly be dropping live human players into your gaming experience, seamlessly blending Cooperating and competitive multiplayer. Still, I would not be surprised if the core idea for Spartan Wars was conceived by Bungie back when they were in control of the Halo franchise.
