Microsoft has officially announced that they are rolling out a mandatory system update for all Xbox 360 owners via Xbox LIVE. This new update adds voice search capabilities for Australian and New Zealand users but doesn't add any other improvements.

Starting today when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

The update is being deployed in waves, so if you haven't received it yet, give it some time and you'll eventually be prompted for it. So far, users who have updated are reporting no adverse effects (on the surface) as far as firmware-flashed 360s are concerned.

What’s in it, you ask? Behind the scenes foundational improvement that will not be visually noticeable, but will help enable an easy update this Fall. There is an area that some of you may notice: We’ve added voice search for Australia and New Zealand.
