The UK Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint that adverts depicting scenes from Activision's Call of Duty 2 game were misleading, and that as such they can not be shown again.

Several viewers complained to the Standards Authority that the TV ads, which used pre-rendered footage as opposed to actual in game footage, decieved them as to the graphics quality of the game.

In response, Activision didn't argue that it wasn't decieving, but rather said that using pre-rendered images was "common practice". They further said that "they had not been told that it was not acceptable to use material created specially for an ad in this way" and that they had acted in "good faith".

Activision noted in their defence, this sort of practice is somewhat common place now, and the ruling could have opened for the floodgates for more claims of deception.

The games in dispute were Call of Duty 2, and also another Activision title, Big Red One.
