A little taste for Duke Nukem fans

It's been quite a long time since the last Duke Nukem game. It also didn't help that the next game in the series - Duke Nukem Forever - was officially canceled. However, PAX 2010 gave Duke Nukem fans what they have been waiting for: a new game.

Yes, it's true. Duke Nukem Forever is actually going to be finished and see the light of day after a twelve year development stint and a brief visit in Developer's Hell regardless a few small things, namely 3D Realms going under, occurred. But sometime in the future, we will finally get another go with Duke.

Despite being a huge task that seemed to be veritably insurmountable, Randy Pitchford stated, "This is actually happening. Can you believe this?" Pitchford said during the Gearbox panel at PAX this weekend. "We don't want the dream to die. We brought all of the guys back together. We want to finish the game. Preserve what they made. Add to it. Expand it." And sure enough, it's going on down.

One over-the-top trailer later, people actually got to go hands on with the game on either the Xbox 360 and PC, which while unbelievable is true enough that I'm a bit excited to be writing it. But only barely, since it's been twelve years since the game was initially announced.

According to G4, some of the highlights from the latest Duke trailer included:

* According to the narrator, Duke had become a hero, but then disappeared. The aliens returned and started tearing the place apart. But then they made one mistake, "They shouldn't have gone after our women."
* Duke, "What, did you think I was gone forever?"
* Duke, on seeing a gigantic, triple breasted demon-spawn creature thing: "Hell, I'd still hit it."
* There are vehicles in the game, including a truck emblazoned with Duke's radiation logo.
* Weapons galore, of course.
* Lots and lots of bare boobs.

So, that's really it for now. While a release date does not yet seem to be in the cards yet for Duke, it still comes as a surprise, at least for one person, that there was someone out there who believed this game warranted being released after all these years. After all, it may not always be a safe bet when it comes to betting on Duke - but hey, better late than never, I suppose.
