It would seem Microsoft is looking for a media-agnostic solution to high-capacity storage, with a Japanese report quoting Peter Moore as saying Blu-Ray, presumably by way of an add-on, is a possibility for Xbox 360.

Speaking to Japanese tech publication UIMedia after his CES presentation (an interview the site has seemingly pulled at time of going to press – make of that what you will) Moore explained that a future in which the Xbox 360 made use of Blu-Ray technology was not beyond the realm of possibility, noting that should HD-DVD become the standard, Sony's PlayStation 3 might find itself at a disadvantage.

In related news, a first-party Xbox 360 HDMI cable is expected by two US retail sources; interesting given the machine cannot output using the standard. The reports, unconfirmed right now, state that the cable will be available within three months, perhaps indicating the functionality enjoyed by the HD-DVD add-on, as revealed at last week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. SPOnG will be running an in-depth exclusive interview with a key Xbox executive in the next couple of weeks, with an explanation of the HD-DVD drive being top of our list of questions. Be sure to keep an eye out, and if you have any specific 360 questions, let us know in the forum below.
