For people who will be getting the Xbox 360 Slim this week, there’s one thing that you need to know in regards to the hard drive that is equipped on the system.

We already know that the hard drive from older models aren’t completely compatible on the new Slim unit. However, the 250GB hard drive that is included in the unit can be taken out and be replaced. No this is not like the PlayStation 3 where you can just purchase a low brand laptop hard drive and put it in, instead, Microsoft is doing what they’re good at and forcing consumers to buy an Official Hard Drive.

There is no announcement at all on the hard drive that can be used on the Slim ones. I know that it’s coming since you can take out the hard drive on the Slim unit and replace it with another. The only question is, when and how much?

In a recent conversation with the Xbox Support Team, they said that the Xbox 360 Hard Drive equipped on the Xbox 360 Slim can be replaced with a generic hard drive, HOWEVER, you will need to break the case so that it fit in the enclosure. The support representative didn’t necessarily approve of it, BUT, it’s possible. He suggested to just wait for Microsoft to announce an official hard drive to avoid breaking the warranty.
