Goodbye HD-DVD, Hello Blue-ray

That's right seems this format war has ended with Blue-ray coming out on top.

Toshiba Corporation has decided to withdraw from next generation high-definition DVD production.

The company said it will continue to sell HD-DVD products for a while but will stop further development of HD-DVD. Meanwhile, it said its DVD factories in Aomori Prefecture, northern Japan, would be closed.

Seems that Microsoft's idea of a add-on Blue-ray drive will see the light of day after all. Both Intel and Microsoft have been supporters of the HD DVD format that is set to be killed off this week.

So if you were quick on the jump to buy a HD DVD add-on I might try to sell it before the word spreads.
