Recently we added a new game to our database, the game Boom Boom Rocket is being developed by Bizarre Creations, the same developers who brought us the Project Gotham series, and also the hit Xbox Live Arcade title, Geometry Wars. Yesterday they released a few more screenshots of the new title along with more details of exactly how the game will play.

The game is being published by Electronic Arts, so it will definitely see enough advertising to be a success. The development team is much larger than what was used on Geometry Wars, which was mainly just Sir Stephen Cakebread with a bit of help here and there. This new title has a core team of seven members with many others helping where neded. And EA is lending a hand with music, graphic design, etc.

The game design is of the standard rhythm game, have various buttons coming towards a line which signals when to hit the desired button. The closer to the line you get, the higher your score. It does however take the concept further than some other games in the past. The controls are going to use the simple standard gamepad to speed up the gameplay and not have users worry about peripherals that they may not be used to. The other idea seems to borrow from the Guitar Hero series, the more fireworks that you set off in a row, the higher your multiplier goes. Once you get to a certain level, the bar will start to sparkle which will allow you to go on a bonus run. This intensifies the action on screen and also the audio reactions from the crowd, not only that it gives you an 8x multiplier instead of the standard 4x maximum limit.

The bonus run will only last 20 seconds, so you will need to wait until you can hit the maximum number of fireworks in order to squeeze the highest score possible. Of course this game will feature a great leaderboard system and the competition will be very close at the top of the list, each point will matter. Also some newer users may not want to use it during the chorus which would naturally be a faster portion of the song, as when you miss you lose the bonus run and lose out on the possibility of getting a higher score for one small mistake.

The song tracks will mostly be remixes of classical songs up to more modern themes. Ian Livingstone has been working on the songs for months and they seem to really fit the action on screen. Not only do the songs fit the gameplay, they also are quite recognizable even though they have underwent the process of modernizing. The graphics are also very reminiscent of the previous Xbox Live Arcade title Geometry Wars.

This is definitely looking to be another hit for everyone involved, I can't wait to get my hands on it and see exactly how it plays and possibly more importantly how it sounds.

Please post your thoughts of this game in the forum, and if you think you may want this game add it to your Member Wishlist.
