The new Toyota Yaris features weapons that fire bullets and fireballs, at least on Xbox Live Aracade, as consumer brand company Toyota jumps on the advergaming bandwagon.
Yaris, an Arcade racing shooter that is free to download via Xbox Live in the US and Canada, is the first advergame to be distributed over Microsoft's online games service, reports the New York Times.
Toyota introduced the Yaris, which is targeted at young consumers, in the spring of 2006. Toyota’s advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi L.A. devised the idea and game design for Yaris, while production was outsourced to Backbone Entertainment, a division of Foundation 9 Entertainment. Toyota is reportedly spending in the low millions on the campaign.
“People can time shift, they can do all sorts of different things to avoid advertising,” said Kim McCullough, corporate manager for marketing communications at Toyota. “That’s why we have to move beyond traditional advertising to do things that are really engaging for people.”
UK-based developer Blitz produced a series of advergames for Burger King last year. The titles, Pocketbike Racer, Big Bumpin’ and Sneak King, have enjoyed great success since their release, shifting around 3.5 million copies to date according to Burger King.
On Monday, Microsoft officially announced that it was bundling the two higher-end models of the Xbox 360, the $349 Pro and $449 Elite, with two free games--Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Forza Motorsport 2. However, the company made no mention of the lowest-end model of the $279 Core Xbox 360, which has been dogged by discontinuation rumors for weeks.
Now comes further evidence that the Core's days are indeed numbered. Photos obtained by GameSpot show that retailers are already erecting displays touting the Core's long-rumored replacement, the Xbox 360 Arcade SKU. As previously speculated, the display shows the console will come bundled with a wireless controller, a 256MB memory card, and five arcade games. Microsoft declined to offer comment on the photo of the console.
Two items of information are not revealed by the standee. First is the system's price, which is purported to be the same $279 cost as the Core. Also missing is the list of the arcade games bundled with the system, presumably included to counter the best-selling $249 Wii console/Wii Sports combo. Though various configurations have been discussed, the most commonly mentioned lineup is Boom-Boom Rocket, Uno, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, and Pac-Man.
The guys over at bungie have needed some input from the hoards playing halo 3 and have now updated the multiplayer scene to better accomodate the general public.
Halo 3's Matchmaking Playlists are designed to evolve with the gaming community. Looks like the lads are busy already.
Whats New/Fixed in Halo 3 Live Matchmaking:
Big Team Battle matches are now 16-player affairs.
In the Team Slayer playlist, the appearance of Shotty Snipers has been greatly reduced. Now when players veto Shotty Snipers, the game that results from the veto will not be Shotty Snipers.
In one-sided VIP matches, the attacking team will now see a waypoint for the VIP they are hunting.
In Lone Wolves, Slayer gametypes will appear more frequently.
What do you all think?? Any other comments/changes you would like to see in Halo 3????
